Nintendo said that they'll stick to retail packaging; they never said anything about releasing more cartridges. They said in the article that future retail products will be sold as vouchers.

They also never said anything about NOT releasing games in traditional formats either. I don't think that can be gathered from the article really.

IMO, I don't think they're ditching physical releases for digital-only ones. What they plan to do is more akin to Marvel vs Capcom 2 of this generation.

Dude read the article. It doesn't say ANYWHERE that they're ditching cartridges/discs. It says they'll be doing a dual distribution model, which will include physical vouchers, i.e. they're going to sell physical releases AND little pieces of paper with a code on it. This is so GameStop et al don't get pissed about being glossed over in this.

Don't make these ridiculous doomsday posts until you have concrete information, this is getting out of hand.

Maybe I'll be lucky enough to be worm food by the time gaming goes 99.9% digital.

Many consumers still want physical games. Most Nintendo consumers do not regularly connect their devices to the internet. I remember some old statistics saying that barely over half of Wiis had ever been connected to the internet. Nintendo has the worst connectivity rate of all three.

Nintendo will not go to a download only model. That would completely alienate a huge portion of consumers. It would be a horrible decision. They are not that dumb.

I'm going to be one of those assholes. If a digitally only console is every released I will wont buy it! Ever! Hell ive got enough games to last the rest of my life, no use in buying a digital only console I cant enjoy 20 years for now. And nintendo? Really? I believed someone already mentioned friend codes. Nuff said.

I'm going to be the asshole who calls you out on this. You'll buy the digital console.

So they're basically following the model Sony is using with Vita game releases?
