i installed a 120 gig hard drive and it has the hdmi port in the back. all i need is a wireless adapter and do i need the xbox version or can i get any adapter with a usb port

You can't use just any USB adapter since the 360 only has the integrated drivers to work with.

The official adapter isn't the only compatible option, though the currently-produced model has a $59.99 MSRP and can be found for a few bucks less. Not sure if many third party options are really that much less.

The other solution is to use a wireless bridge (or a router set to operate as one). It's possible that this could be cheaper than just simply ponying up the dough for an official adapter, if you happen to have an unused wireless router or come across a great deal on one. Even then, it'll probably mean a bit more initial setup time and effort.

Personally, I wired an ethernet port in my living room, and have an ethernet switch behind my TV stand that the consoles/PC/Blu-ray player are plugged into...so I haven't personally messed with it.
