Together Retro Extra Credit: RC Pro Am Sequels/Spin-Offs

Post by racketboy »

If you get your fill of the original RC Pro Am, feel free to dive into similar games and share your favorites here.

Personally, I've played a lot of Super RC Pro Am on the original Gameboy and would heavily recommend it.

Power Drive Rally for the Atari Jaguar, its similar racing style without the power ups, which is a such a very sharp looking game that its impossible on the psx or saturn (in my option compared to other games). This is one of the best games on the Jaguar.

also, i would say Neo Drift Out Technology, Over Top and Thrash Rally for the Neo Geo system, without the powerups again, all fun games racing in a style of RC Pro Am, although not 100% exactally. I love all 3 of these games especially Over Top and New Drift Out, 2 of the better looking games on the New Geo. Thrash Rally doesnt look good, but its very playable and fun.

Cobra Triangle is also good, its RC Pro-AM in boats. Some say Galaxy 5000, but I find its controls to floaty for the genre.

If we limit to isometric only is tricky. Are we only mentioned this sort of game if it includes weapons?

Top view, with weapons: Supercars 2 (Amiga), Death Rally (PC), Karnaaj Rally (GBA).

Isometric view, without weapons: Ironman Stewart (Amiga), Skidmarks series (Amiga)

Isometric with weapons, I must say I don't recall any. It's harder to aim I guess. There's plenty of top view without weapons as well.

There's probably more and I'm certain there's ports of those (Ironman is an arcade game, probably best way to play is on MAME? Supercars and Skidmarks probably best to play on Amiga, although Skidmarks has ports for Megadrive at the very least).
I prefer this sort of game to First Person driving games.

Was going through my genesis games and to my amazement found that I have championship pro racing, never played it before so I'm gonna try that. Also found Williams Arcade's Greatest Hits, a little too late for together retro defender. :D

Update: played Championship Pro-Am on the genesis and I consider it better than R.C. Pro-am on the nes, it has little or no upgrades. Track are the same, vehicles and everything but to me the handling and difficulty seemed better overall, please try it.
