Re: The Wrestling Thread
^ Which era of WCW specifically?
I always rooted for WCW to do well (late in its life) because I didn't want the WWF to become a stale monopoly. Plus, some of my favorite Monday memories in college were The Monday Night Wars.
Now, much like TNA today, it was pretty painful storyline wise to invest in WCW. I do miss it though.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I miss ECW, even though I really wasn't watching it in its heyday. I learned a lot about it on the Rise and Fall of ECW DVD, and regretted all the awesomeness that I missed. Plus, I was so impressed when I watched WWE's first One Night Stand pay per view. This was before Vince decided to take a crap over everything ECW stood for.
ECW had a lot going for it that is still awesome by today's standards, unfortunately it has no place in the current state of pro wrestling it seems. Everything is so watered down these days, and you can't really do some of the crazy stuff you used to see now that wrestler safety is such an issue. I'm not saying I'm against keeping these guys safe and healthy, not at all, but I do miss some of the crazy stunts and things we saw in the old days of hardcore wrestling.
I think this is the last we saw of the old ECW. My hat's off to it and to Paul Heymen for the legacy they created. God, the balls Heyman and that promotion used to have

'95 through early-to-mid '99. That was the greatest wrestling promotion of all-time during that era. The main-eventers was a list of who's who in pro-wrestling at the time, and the bottom-to-mid card was phenomenal (even if WCW execs didn't see it).retrosportsgamer wrote:^ Which era of WCW specifically?

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I remember being super excited they were going to be on TNN and have their own cable presence, but at that point they were on the way down and all the big guys had left (except RVD). Then they had the whole thing with Mike Awesome being the champ and going to WCW, and then Taz (in WWF at the time) winning the ECW belt off him.
The 15 year anniversary of the first ECW PPV is this month. It was a bonus disc on the second One Night Stand DVD release ('06).

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Man, I don't know about you guys, but I thought Lesnar was awesome on tonight's Raw, and I do like how Cena is reacting to him. It is such a HUGE breath of fresh air to see a NOT confident John Cena. Lesnar's mic shows are really up to par. I hope he's good in the ring too. I love bad asses and he's totally filled in that bad ass void left by Mark Henry
It was nice to see a return to jokey, funny CM Punk tonight, even though that whole gift basket/sobriety test angle was kind of weird. Punk made it watchable though
Some interesting guest appearances tonight with Paul Bearer and Edge
I love seeing Santino win matches. That guy is way more entertaining than all their other comedy acts right now, including Brodus Clay, Hornswaggle, and yes, even Zak Ryder.
Thumbs down to one of the Bella twins winning the title. Thing is, they pass that title around so much it has no value. If you're a WWE diva, you WILL win the title at some point. That's how sad that division is. At least it had some credibility around Beth Phoenix's waist. God damnit when is Karma coming back? And why the hell doesn't WWE hire some international female wrestlers with real in ring talent? Do something with the division WWE or KILL IT! Seriously. I'd rather ZERO women's wrestling than have it just be mediocre forever. It's sad that AJ isn't with Daniel Bryan anymore. At least she served a purpose and she played her role very, very well. Now she'll just being going nowhere in the crap women's division again
What of waste of Dolph Ziggler's talents having him in a match with Brodus Clay and Hornswaggle tonight. He deserves better than this shit.
It's sad seeing R Truth job out to Lord Tensai. Boy, he's fallen really far down. The Miz has too. R Truth is essentially back to square one. He's just a joke, lower mid card babyface again.
I hope they have something good down the pipeline for Cody Rhodes and Mark Henry. I don't hate how the WWE is using them at the moment, as they are being put in meaningful matches, but both guys don't really have a good storyline at the moment. The Cody/Big Show thing is getting stale.
Well, nothing else to say except
YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I'm marking out for the Lesnar and Cena feud right now. Finally, they're doing something that has substance! Cena's really got his back against the wall and I can't wait to see his character evolve with this arc. The intimidation, the chain (equalizer at this point), the emotion, it's all really refreshing. Edge and Percy Pringles guest appearances had me totally stoked as well!
Nikki Bella winning the championship... like Gamer said, the Divas division is complete garbage at this point. But I do like the Bellas and am glad they didn't hand it over to Kelly Kelly again or (miss botch queen herself) Alicia Fox. It was lame how the outcome of the match came about but the change is refreshing.
I was actually mostly surprised because rumors were making the rounds that the Bellas weren't renewing their contracts. We'll see how long Nikki manages to keep the belt, but honestly until creative puts some effort into the division that title doesn't mean much at all.
Punk trolled Jericho pretty hardcore, lol, that was awesome and was very entertaining.
And I really REALLY wish Albert would stop trying to speak Japanese... I really do. The horrible accent, lame green mist, sluggish pace, annoying hissing... could've been a decent gimmick if they had the right guy. Albert's just not the right guy for this role, imo. At least I got a good laugh last week; Did anyone notice how botched up the symbols on his head were last week just before his match with Cena began?

Re: The Wrestling Thread
There was some good writing on this Raw. Kain screwing over his dad makes sense if he truly has abandoned his humanity and I LOVED him calling the devil his real father. THIS is the Kane that I could see ending Taker's streak even though we all know that will never happen. Kane has made getting the mask back much more than a cheap gimmick. The guy is basically being used to keep main eventers busy when they are not chasing the title, but he's making those little feuds pretty entertaining. He delivered that line about loving family reunions last week so perfectly and his Wrestlemania chokeslam from the top rope was awesome! I've always been a Kane mark and they're doing good things with him right now

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Does anyone know if I can get RAW on Apple TV or Netfilx or something? Or do I have to get cable? Smackdown is on Apple TV but I'm missing all the real action.

YouTube usually has the new episodes up not long after they air.NathanBarnatt wrote:Does anyone know if I can get RAW on Apple TV or Netfilx or something? Or do I have to get cable? Smackdown is on Apple TV but I'm missing all the real action.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
May still be hope for the women's division
http://allwrestling.com/news/42371/khar ... -expected/
"As noted before, Beth Phoenix did the injury angle on RAW and lost the Divas Title to Nikki Bella to set up Kharma's return to TV.
WWE officials have wanted to bring Kharma back and make her a monster champion from the start but felt that Kharma vs. Phoenix is the money match and should be saved for down the line. No word yet on when WWE plans on holding the Kharma vs. Phoenix match.
One plan had Kharma squashing Nikki for the Divas Title at either Extreme Rules or on RAW the following night. If Nikki doesn't drop the title this coming Sunday or Monday, it's a sign that she and sister Brie have signed contract extensions with the company."
Gail vs Awesome Kong version 2.0? Yes please
