You can't really blame him seeing as this is Microsoft related news. The original thread should technically be moved to here.

Hey niode I got a question very unrelated...but do you know how close Mac OSX is coming to working on an AMD/ATI comp. I wanna know cause I'd like to dual boot with XP 64 bit.

They will never do an ATI/AMD computer, purely because of the tight ties with intel. Besides, AMDs chips are expensive and not very fast, plus their energy efficiency isn't the best. So they are no good for mobile platforms. The mac pro wouldn't use them because it benefits from a multi-cpu set up and AMD haven't updated their opteron line for years.

Besides, if you get a Mac Pro you can dual boot and run xp 64 bit no problem. Plus you can upgrade the graphics cards in the Mac Pro. You just need to pay through the nose for 'mac edition' which is exactly the same, just with ported drivers. Thats the best way if you wanna go official.

Hackintosh is the way to go if you really want an amd/ati setup though. Plus there's the efix coming, which is a bootstrap for the EFI bios of Macs to allow you to natively install OS X straight onto your computer without needing hackintosh, it just boots the retail dvd and you install it onto your computer like a real mac.

AMD's are generally cheaper and tend to run faster than Intels.

Thank you nick for correcting him, plus if I bought a mac I'd be spending about 8 times as much as I would for the same speed. Plus I'm not talking mobile, I want it on my desktop...I personally hate laptops.
