Saw multiple copies of this at GameStop the other day for $4.99. Didn't pick it up because the average GameStop disc appears to have been chewed by woodchucks.
Did a little research later and I'm intrigued by this game. Looks like it was jointly developed by Japanese and Korean teams and I'm digging the anime style graphics.
The clowns at GameSpot and IGN gave it a low score which leads me to believe it's probably awesome.
Any thoughts?

Re: Ninety-Nine Nights?!
I rented it from GameFly awhile ago and I thought it was pretty good. If you enjoy Dynasty Warrior games of the hack n' slash genre you will enjoy it. It has a good variety of characters and abilities as well to mix it up. I didn't know it was so cheap I'm gonna have to check GameStop to see if I can pick it up.
The box art looks awesome too!!

Did you play Kingdom Under Fire? The first N3, at least, was developed by the same people.

Re: Ninety-Nine Nights?!
Kingdom Under Fire Crusaders is excellent. It's a mix of rpg, real time strategy and hack n slash combat against hordes of enemies like you see in Ninety-Nine Nights. If you ever wondered what it would be like to lead huge armies into medieval battle, than that game is probably the best representation of it you'll find. The game is a bit tough with a high learning curve. It's still cool though.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Haven't played it! But it looks pretty cool too.sabrage wrote:Did you play Kingdom Under Fire? Imagine ordering a group of archers to fire on a group of enemies in a forest with fire arrows to light them up. Then, as they emerge from the woods, you lead another group right into melee combat with them. You hack and slash away at the horde, then order one of your senior officers to unleash a special attack on them. After that, you issue a command for your horse mounted cavalry to trample them! Oh, but look out! An enemy wizard has just unleashed a massive fireball spell that is descending on your troop!
I've never played Ninety-Nine Nights, but reviewers in the western part of the world generally hate any game that resembles the Dynasty Warriors series in any way. You can't put too much into whatever scores they give because the heavy bias is so obvious when you look at the history of scores games like this usually get from them.

Seriously. Screw you Shao Kahn I'm gonna play Animal Crossing.
Re: Ninety-Nine Nights?!
I was excited about it back when it first came out and I picked it up in short order.
I grew bored of it very quickly, and ultimately never finished the game.
There are multiple characters to choose from, and you play through their individual stories. As I recall, they each only have 4 or 5 levels, but each level takes a good 45 minutes+ to complete.
I've never played any Dynasty Warriors games, which are the obvious comparison, so I can't really comment on that. All I know is that while the combat was cool to see at first, it became so repetitive so fast that I lost all interest. The novelty of fighting off massive hoards of enemies gets old when you wipe out 500 of them only to turn around and see 500 more coming around the corner. You stop feeling like a bad ass and start feeling like its a job.
All that said, its technically fine, no control issues, sharp graphics (and impressive too, when you consider the ridiculous number of enemies on screen at all times). I don't really have any complaints about it other than that its, well, boring.
Your mileage may vary of course, but I didn't think much of it. There's a good chance its just not my style of game though, and I've been meaning to test that by trying out one of the Dynasty Warriors games.
On the plus side, its dirt cheap.

I remember playing a demo for N3, come to think of it. It was mindless fun but, as CFFJR said, ultimately boring. Could still be up on XBL.
