That's one of the things that attracts me to metal. A lot of bands actually have something to say or something interesting to sing about unlike a like of mainstream, radio friendly, artists who have absolutely nothing of substance to say at all.
But you can't understand the lyrics man!!!! Just a bunch of screams!!!!!

Both mentalities are kind of narrow-minded, IMO. If you don't open up to music outside of the radio, of course you're limiting yourself on music selection and an entire world of metal you've yet to discover. But at the same time, "hipster" metal-heads miss out on some great bands that have broken through to the mainstream because in their minds all bands that have play on the radio suck. And it's not like all obscure metal is great, plenty of it sucks too.

Me, I'm open to both mainstream radio metal, if it's good, and more obscure metal, if it's good.

..as a fan of many genres -and with my "mainstream hatred" in tow- if it's good it's good, doesn't matter where it's from.. and it's good to hear some interesting stuff come over the radio waves when a clever band makes it.. heard a few tracks on the radio in the past few years at least that weren't absolute crap

What is it about chicks and metal that is so irresistible to me? I've also been going back and enjoying some Kalmah songs again and I'm STILL not sick of hearing Eluveitie's Helvetios album yet.

Female fronted japanese metal? Well there's Gonin-Ish, a really interesting proggy/avant-garde? extreme metal band. Singer does a lot of cleans, some rather nasty sounding harsh vocals on occasion(seriously, they sound kinda painful to do).

On of their cool gimmicks is that they apparently sing in a very old dialect of japanese that's even difficult for a lot of native speakers to understand.

I think BoneSnapDeez might like this if nobody else. They're sometimes considered a sister band of sorts to Sigh.

Oh yeah Gonin-Ish is tight. First heard them a couple of years ago. Love the vocals.

Here's another one... Gallhammer.

Excellent crusty black metal.

Gallhammer is one of my favorite bands!

Still haven't given, "The End" a listen. I'd imagine it'd be weird without Mika in the band. I wonder if one of the other girls fills in on guitar, or if they just try and do it Lightning Bolt-style or something... who knows.

But Ill Innocence is one of the best things ever recorded ever.
