wii mote vs wii motion plus controller

Post by mas »

I was just wondering if it's worth even trading in or selling my 4 wii remotes to get some newmotion plus controllers. I went online looking around but I can't seem to find a major differance between the two. Can anyone give some help on this. I really dont want to trade in 4 remotes for 1 or 2 motion plus controllers if its not going to really do anything. Thanks

The motion plus controllers have motion plus built in. It's an attachment for wii remote that adds extra accuracy to the motion controls for the games that use it. It has no effect on games that aren't designed for it.

Here's a list of games that use it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ga ... MotionPlus

For some games (Wii Sports Resort, Red Steel 2, Zelda: Skyward Sword) it's essential, most others it's compatible with it's optional.

So should I just buy those attachments or just get new controllers with the motion plus built in and trade off my wii remotes?

Whichever you would prefer to do really. The attachments might be a cheaper route, but the motion plus controller is nice because it's the size of a normal wiimote with no extra bulk. Also, you dont need to turn the motion plus on and off with the wiimote plus because it's activated automatically for games that use it. It's just a decision between cost and bulk really.

Go for the Wii Mote Plus. The add on for the standard controller is bulky and annoying, especially if you need to keep changing stuff around :(

I hate the locking mechanism on the MotionPlus attachment. It's really unnecessarily annoying to remove.

Maybe keep them if the trade in value might not be that much? I would weigh the cost of buying the Motion Plus attachment versus buying Motion Plus Remotes with the trade in. Take into account the added weight which maybe makes the remote feel more robust and the hassle of removing if you use plastic housings. There is not a huge amount of Wii games that needs the added capability of the plus, but worth getting anyways for the one game you like that needs it. There is a way to remove the string and cover off the Motion Plus without cutting it.

I did a comparison here: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 93#p531393

For the lowest cost option, snagging the attachments is much cheaper if you know where to go. For example Sports Authority (I know) sells them for like 50-60% less. So they're under $10. At which point in time it's kinda like, "why wouldn't you get some of these?"

Though the plus remote is a more elegant solution as it doesn't change the form factor size.

If I still had a wii motion plus accessory I could probably better explain how annoying it is, but from memory of the only time I've ever used one, it kind of feels floppy and adds a little bit of awkward weight to the end of the controller.

I would go with the controller that has motion plus built in, if you can find a good deal on it.

Sometimes Best Buy has that FlingSmash bundle for really cheap, like <$10. Haven't seen it in a few months though, I think it's out of print. Flingsmash is supposed to be pretty good too, incidentally.
