Re: Gekioh Shooting King vs Shienryu (scoring differences?)

Post by mjmjr25 »

I've heard it (Gekioh) is a poor version of the JP version (Shienryu) but honestly, i've played both and didn't notice a difference in scoring, sprites, slowdown, or anything else that jumped out at me as inferior.

My guess is the complaints stem from it not having a TATE mode (which SAT does, as does PSX-J I believe). And iirc, it only has a single loop, where as the JP release has a 2nd loop.

Hit me up if were playing this :)

was thinking of getting the PS2 port soon though, so wasn't sure if I should wait to start a high score thread until I have that (presumably superior?) port to play instead.

EDIT: Shmups Hi-Score thread lists PS1 port as one table, and every other port combined in a second table.

I think the ps1 port does not loop, thus the seperate sections.

And... the ps1 scoresgo much higher, so scoring must be altered.

Well... maybe not

12m at loop 2 is the nonps1 high, and 18m is the highest ALL in the ps1 port... that difference could be from "end of game" bonuses, although that would be a huge EoG bonus.

I've never actually played this game, but it looks so good!

Your talking about PS2-J "Double Shooting Shienryu"? Yeah, that is relatively inexpensive (as far as far as JP shmups go, that is).

I'm guessing it is on a separate table because of the second loop and a lot of guys can loop this game.

I'm doing really good actually. I've hit Stage 4 and hitting just over 2M now. Practice helps. But yeah I'll probably pick up the PS2 port for sake of reporting legit score.

EDIT: I also find it amazing that dunpeal's never heard of Shienryu!

I'll play the PSX-US version tonight and see where we're at. I remember this being middle of the road in difficulty...and great muzak. I think I used to hit stage 4, maybe stage 5...don't recall score at all though.
