Just saw episode 3. The plot thickens. Amon is shaping up to be a great villian, and anyone who's seen the first Avatar series will have his mind blown. Three episodes in!

I am excited.

I know nothing about Avatar. Is this still worth checking out? It seems be getting some good buzz

As a point of reference, two of my favorite animated series of all time are Disney's Gargoyles and Justice League Unlimited, and the only animated shows I currently watch are Young Justice and Green Lantern The Animated Series. I was an anime fan years ago with Cowboy Bebop, Tenchi Muyo and Rurouni Kenshin (especially the Kyoto arc and the Samurai X prequel) being my faves

Is Korra something that might appeal to me? Again, I have no familiarity with Avatar

^ You might be able to enjoy Legend of Korra on its own, but the first two episodes had lots of references to the original series (The Last Airbender). I'm sure the entire series will have references. Legend of Korra also expects you to already know certain things, like what the Avatar is. I would suggest watching the original series first. It's only 3 seasons. But it's definitely quality over quantity.

Watched the third episode yesterday and it was really good. They fully showed the villain, and what he is capable of. I actually enjoyed this episode the best so far, the anti-bending revolution thing is very interesting, and I am curious to find out more about Amon.

One thing I noticed is that they have almost to a T filled in characters from the original series with new ones, Bolin is just like Sokka, Mako is just like Zuko, even Bolin's fire-Ferret is shaping up to be the next Momo.

Yeah, I can definitely see the similarity. Korra is a lot like Aang too, despite what the ads say :D On the other hand, Amon is shaping up to be a much better villain than the Fire Lord.

Amon's ability is really interesting. I'm trying to figure out where he could have learned it.
Tenzin says that the only person who knew how to take bending away. However, the Lion-Turtle was the one who taught Aang. Since Aang's own son doesn't know that, it must have been super secret. Did Aang teach anyone else the technique? I guess we won't know that for a while. He probably thought that it was something only the Avatar could do, since Tenzin also thought that.

It actually makes sense that the spirits appeared to Amon then. They were the only ones besides Aang who knew how.

So, even if he learned the technique, how could Amon use it?
1. Amon is Aang - this is ridiculous, and he's been reincarnated by now anyway
2. Anyone can learn it
3. Anyone can learn it, but only from the spirits
4. Any bender can learn it (or only from the spirits). Amon might be a bender, right?
5. Some new thing we haven't seen yet

Hmmm, I might see if I can get caught up on The Last Airbender. I had heard of the show before but had no idea it was this quality show that everybody was buzzing about

I just watched the episode. Fuck-damn, my DVR didn't record the last minute because they aired the show a minute late. I fixed my DVR so that wont happen again, but I missed the last little bit of the episode. Korra was talking to Tenzin on the bridge when it cut out.

Spoilers:
I was guessing that there's gonna be a twist with Amon, him being a bender would be a good twist. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what it is. His "equality" thing might be smoke over what he really wants to accomplish. Maybe he wants to take over the world or whatever.

There's definitely something up with Amon though, I don't think just anyone can learn to do that. I forget the exact details when the giant turtle teaches it to Aang, but don't you have to be really spiritual to do it? And the Avatar is the bridge between the spirit world, and all that jazz. And there was something else, about good conquering evil. You're heart has to be pure, or something like that, otherwise the evil will conquer you. That was the suspense when Aang was doing it to The Phoenix King.
IDK, I guess well find out.

The original series is on Netflix, if you have it. DVDs or streaming. If Legend of Korra sounds like something you'd like, then I highly recommend watching the original series. It is one of the best stories I've ever heard.

^ I just watched the end. I really only missed like 5 seconds, nothing important.

The quality of the video was pretty bad on full screen. Hopefully I never miss an episode entirely, it would suck to have to watch an entire episode with that quality.

Another thing I just thought of about Amon...
He wears a mask. His official explanation is because he was badly burned by fire benders. But it's also convenient if they unmask him at some point and reveal his real identity. He could turn out to be some one we already know, or some one we will know (by another name). I have the feeling he might get unmasked before the series ends. Every one does... Darth Vader, the Phantom of the Opera, even Zoro every once in a while. There's definitely gonna be some kind of a twist with Amon, I can just feel it.
