Diablo 2 "7 player team" thread
A recounting from my point of view - I spent a good chunk of my morning trying to get a replacement for Moz, I eventually "recruited" a nice guy called Burnes straight from a Battle.net channel about 30 min before 9:30 (AM) EST. Not a very productive use of my time when most people in US East are still sleeping, and not that many people in Europe's B.net either. Naturally in hindsight I shouldn't have bothered as we didn't get to 7 anyway, although Burnes was nice and as we was actively playing he still remembered where some stuff was in Act 1 (I certainly didn't
).
I already had talked to Niode here on the forums, so I knew he was going to show up. Raz showed up in the channel a good bit before the starting time with his Amazon (thanks Raz
).
Howitzer and Lywellyn from the other boards showed up next, with the Paladin and Assassin. Burnes went for a Druid.
Just to make me despair a bit more, Niode wasn't there at 9:30 though as he had trouble with an iPhone (or an iPod, I don't remember) and was trying to update the firmware or something.
Max wasn't showing up as well, so I just thought "screw it", asked everyone if they wanted to swap class (as we weren't making it up to 7 anyway). Nobody swapped, so we started at around 9:45 or 9:50.
Niode showed up perhaps around 10:00 or some 15 min after we started playing. He joined in with his Necro, with a slight level difference naturally (he started lvl 1 and we had gained some levs meanwhile, perhaps around 6 or so). He vanished perhaps 30 or 45 min later.
During this I must have disconnected briefly 2 or 3 times (thanks to my wonderful internet connection), but I returned ASAP and I don't think I missed much of the action (the others should tell me).
In the end, as Raz said, we got to the inner cloister, lvl 14-15. We didn't continue for the 2nd session.
I think we were definitively still playing at 11:30 though, perhaps by sheer by bad luck Moz got on during one of my disconnects. Or I may just be wrong about the times, but I don't think we got to the Inner Cloister in less than 2 hours and we only started at 9:50.
So in the end, we had some fun and played together, but as far as the original idea I had it was a disaster. Too ambitious, I guess, it's too restrictive and people have a really hard time of setting aside that chunk of time in two Sundays. I'm a bit sad in the end, because I still think it would be a really cool way to play D2, but the time for that was probably when LoD got released when people were really into it. The buzz with the D3 announcement gave me false hope... But I'm not so disillusioned that I won't try to do something equivalent for D3 when it comes out, as then people should be willing to put up the time for something like this (and I think there's only going to be 5 classes in D3 - until it gets an expansion at least).
Ivo.

I don't think so. For one, 6 or 5 of us played together yesterday, so that's sort of like what you had envisioned, right?Mozgus wrote:As was mine.Ivo wrote:but as far as the original idea I had it was a disaster.
And I reckon the people that played yesterday are up for gathering with decently friendly players next week as well. Raz clearly is.
I may default to just playing it single player myself though, as getting disconnected from B.net sucks. I would figure now that I don't use dial-up this crap wouldn't happen.

My idea was the "open" rooms, without all the organization. I just wanted to play with people who frequented this site, but everytime I checked for the game room, it didn't exist. When I created it, I'd sit idle and still no one joined. Didn't work at all.Ivo wrote:I don't think so.
