MLP has a quite lively internet community that is well organized, probably a result of the initial shock of liking a bright-pink show about magical ponies. They are also surprisingly nice so it has gotten quite big over time. Add good relations with the creators of the show and it's easy to see why the community flourishes.

My Little Pony is also a niche cartoon so people who watch it are surely going to be more involved than those who like, dunno, The Simpsons and Family Guy, for example. And those two aren't what I would consider quality animation so it's in a quite unique spot.

There are communities for classic cartoons but they are insular and tend to have a far older fanbase, mostly composed of people who watched them in the TV or in the closing days of cinematic animation.

I used to have a different cartoon avatar very recently (I'm sure you know that) and General_Norris has one right now.

I'm sure that when MLP is old, discussions and avatars will die down dramatically (just like any other popular show)

Yeah. Although Lauren Faust worked on Powerpuff Girls too. I wasn't talking about this forum only. Any video game/MMORPG/world of warcraft related forum I've been to lately has been full of MLP avatars and signatures. You could see the occasional cartoon related avatar on a forum before 2011, but now in some places like 15-45% of active posters have MLP avatars. I have never seen any other cartoon being so popular, even when they were relevant.



But that just goes to show you how dramatically the quality of cartoons has dropped within 2004-2010. You get one decent cartoon and suddenly every one is all over it.

For a site that claims to hate 4chan, they really have a ton in common with them. They might as well change their name to Encyclopedia/b/. And they certainly have tons of hate over there, that's for sure. They've got some disturbed people writing their pages.
