Arcade Guys Please Help

Post by Rawkmann »

I'm really wanting to replace my old crt arcade monitor with a nice LCD computer monitor. My question is where to start and how do I hook this up to make it work properly? I know there are a few different video adapters and such, any recommendations? Thanks so much in advance for the help.

Stick to original hardware, using LCD is an abomination that stretches the pixels and fails to upscale. It will make games look worse.

What games is this and why do you want to put a LCD in it?

The only way it'd look nice on a different display technology is if you had some hardware in between the two to prep the image for the new display type.

Though, that sounds like something that'd have to be custom hobbled together, to be honest.

Its an old Neo cab. So far it sounds more complicated than i thought for this mod. The original monitor is just ugly now with a bad green tint. I cant adjust it out anymore either. I guess my best option is just to get a new 25" crt unless anyone has a different suggestion. Thanks so much for your help guys.

Do you know the previous owner and are you able to see if it's had the caps recently replaced on the chassis? That is yr best bet. You can't just swap in a home TV to replace an arcade monitor like changing tires on yr car - doesn't work that way.

If you want to Frankenstein it and put a TV in there - that's fine, but even that goes way beyond finding the right screen-sized TV.

A user named swirlee did just what you're talking about. He made a lot of detailed information.

I've had the machine for about 13 years now. I know there's a lot of work put into replacing the monitor so I usually get a local guy that runs an arcade to do the repairs. I may see if I can get him to just totally overhaul the monitor then. I was thinking about a solution like this as far as conversion if I did go through with this:
