It's not that now "we" know, it's now that anyone with Internet access knows. Admitting to illegal activity over the internet is dumb. Sure, the feds and local police dpt.'s aren't scanning for your Internet activity, but for some reason you get caught doing something illegal, your posts can condemn you even if you mask your ip. It's some of the most damning evidence, as unless you can prove you've been hacked or someone logged in as you and knows all your passwords, every keystroke is recorded.

Tracking online activity is becoming, if not already is, the number one way to prove someone's character in court. An amusing pseudonym and silly avatar won't clear your name.

Just a word of advice from someone who is friends with a few lawyers: Think before you post.

This is just stupid for so many reasons. Are these lawyer friends divorce lawyers then? Or just bad lawyers? Seriously any criminal attorney is going to be able to get almost any online "evidence" dismissed, and if they can't it comes down to a matter of reasonable doubt. It is impossible to prove who was on said computer posting. That's why traffic cameras that take a picture of your car running a traffic light and send you a ticket are no longer used in this state since you can't prove who is driving the car. Reasonable doubt is a bitch for prosecution.

I'm sitting with my lawyer friend now and he's laughing about internet paranoia. Luke go to 12ozprophet.com's forums no one is getting arrested because of things they post there. My lawyer and I both used to be very active members of that site.
