Movie Recommendations

Post by Ack »

Hey guys, I just got a Netflix account, and I was wondering what recommendations you guys have as far as films go. I'm trying to only watch films I've never seen before, but I'll watch almost anything. If I've seen it or already ordered it, I'll tell you. So let me know what you guys consider awesome movies!

And don't let it just be Fast. I've already seen The Sting.

Film I really want to see is The King of Kong. They have been advertising it heavily in Retro Gamer here in the UK and it just seems like a good story, even if it is apprently not true...

Movies:

There Will Be Blood--One of the best films I've seen this year.
Darkon-I found this to be hilarious, it's a documentary about Live Action Roleplayer's. I'm not sure it was supposed to be humurous.
City of God
3:10 to Yuma
The Proposition-MUST SEE! For Western Fans.
Bubba Ho-Tep
Dr. Strangelove
The Devil's Rejects
L.A. Confidential
L4yer Cake
Once Upon a time in America
Undead
Old Boy
American Beauty
Kung Fu Hustle
The Count of Monte Cristo
Returner
Eastern Promises

Television:

Rome: Season 1 & 2
Deadwood: Seasons 1, 2, 3
The Wire: Seasons 1, 2, 3 & 4----I consider the above three shows to be some of the best television ever made.
Frisky Dingo
Any other HBO series.

Back to the Future trilogy

I love Netflix for checking out TV series I haven't seen.
That's how I got into LOST, Battlestar Galactica, and many others...

Well, it might be a bit more helpful if you tell us the kind of films you like? You can find any of these films mentioned already in any top 25 films of this year, last year, this decade, 80s, 70s, 60s, all time lists that are floating around most movie review blogs/sites.

I'll try not to say titles already mentioned.

The Wizard
Anything Disney/Pixar (excluding Finding Nemo and The Incredibles)
Rambo series
Die Hard series
Aliens vs. Predator series (Requiem kicked ass)
300 (mainly because it was such a huge hit, we're going to be seeing references to it for a loooooong time)
Spider Man series
Daredevil (well, pretty much any Marvel movie excluding The Fantastic Four movies)
Doom
The Water Boy (the only Adam Sandler movie I really like)
Anything with Arnold
Anything with Vin Diesel in it (except for The Pacifier)
Ghostbusters
Top Gun (I like the soundtrack to it)
Star Wars series (of course)
The Simpsons movie
Space Jam
The Transporter series
War *haven't seen it yet, but it has Jet Li and Jason Statham, how can that not be good?)
Anything with Bruce Lee or Jet Li
Anything with Chuck Norris
Anything with Will Smith (except for I, Robot)
Indiana Jones trilogy

Anything Disney/Pixar (excluding Finding Nemo and The Incredibles) <-- Wha?! These are the better ones! Toy Story and Monsters Inc. are the best, followed by Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. All the rest are trash. Wall-E doesn't come out until next week in the UK.

Aliens vs. Predator series (Requiem kicked ass) <-- Again, HUH?! Mindlessly boring, not a patch on Alien(s) or Predator, the first AVP bored me to death. I actually fell asleep watching the second one it was that boring. I've never fallen asleep watching a movie at the cinema... ever, but that one managed it.

Daredevil (well, pretty much any Marvel movie excluding The Fantastic Four movies) Watch any marvel film, except this one, it's turd. Although The Fantastic Four movies are craptastic. Since when was the Silver Surfer a bad guy?! WTF?!

Doom HAHA You're kidding right?
BTW you can't go wrong with any of Stanley Kubrick's films. They are all timeless.

The Big Lebowski is one of my favourite films of all time.

If you like horror-comedies, you need to see Brain Dead (Dead Alive in the US), Evil Dead 1, 2, Army of Darknes and Shaun of the Dead. Awesome films.
