God of War: Ascension
God of War: Ascension
Trailer here, more to come April 30. I played through the entire series last December, and though I had to force myself to replay the first two again ("Oh god, I forgot about the clones!") I thought the third one was excellent. The designers really dug deep to make Kratos a truly despicable and shocking character. That said... (massive spoilers)
Re: God of War: Ascension
I wish they would make a game where Kratos is the antagonist.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.
Re: God of War: Ascension
The trailer seems to imply that this game takes place before he became the insufferable scumbag that he is.
In short, I'm interested. Maybe while playing this game I'll hate him less than I usually do.

Well, I haven't played the PSP titles, but I thought that the other prequels already covered that ground? It feels a little Star Wars-ish, trying to shoehorn even more of Kratos' past in when it's already been discussed so extensively.CFFJR wrote:The trailer seems to imply that this game takes place before he became the insufferable scumbag that he is.

I've only played Chains of Olympus (the first prequel), so I can't say for sure overall. But in that, he was already a piece of shit working for the gods. You get a small glimpse of his past with some stuff about his daughter, where you see a surprisingly tender side of him, but that's about it.sabrage wrote: Well, I haven't played the PSP titles, but I thought that the other prequels already covered that ground? I think you're right though, they do seem to be milking it. I can't help but be curious anyway. I'll probably end up spoiling the story for myself and then decide if I actually want to play it.

Re: God of War: Ascension
God of War 3 is an excellent game! It bears repeating. The weapons are all useful and the combat is much more aerially-focused, which may sound like small changes but the game feels radically different as a result (well, I mean, it's still God of War.) Should be pretty cheap these days too.
Re: God of War: Ascension
GoW3 killed the series for me (not that it was very hard to kill at all). It was so damn on rails and half the game played itself, it was definitely a big step down from the first two to me.
Kratos is definitely one of the most uninteresting characters ever. Just let it end!

Re: God of War: Ascension
God of War has never exactly been known for its exploration. And with fixed camera angles, I'd rather it be linear.
Re: God of War: Ascension
Pretty much this. Never felt like anything but a sad rip-off of Japanese action games, and GoW 3 drove this point home more than ever.Xeogred wrote:GoW3 killed the series for me (not that it was very hard to kill at all).

I'm kinda interested to see what backstory they dive into despite the fact I'm basically done with the series.
