Awful search capabilities on this site?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I just don't post things that likely have been posted already. I rarely use forum search.

Right. Just to be clear, I'm referring to the Google Custom Search input box that is in the top right hand side of every Racketboy page. Not sure why that particular Google search is not working correctly.

I've had a few search issues, but it generally works ok for me. It's good to hear that racket is aware of it though!

As far as posting topics that may have already been posted, I usually do a search if it's about something more obscure, but sometimes its not worth bumping an ancient topic if what I want to discuss is similar.

I actually record and catalog every thread ever made into my brain. Why nobody else can do this bizarre to me.

Yeah I'm aware of it....
For some reason, I think the search indexing for the forum stalls sometimes before completing all the way in phpbb. Not sure why. But that would explain why some stuff doesn't show up.
And we can't really control the Google Site search at all -- that's just whatever Google decides to index and rank.

Bumping this topic again because I ran into an issue trying to find a previous post I made. I searched for "ceton". Again, the google search is not finding it but the forum search (The Search link next to members link) finds it.

@Nick, has anything been done to improve the google indexing of this site? You mentioned that you think it's out of your control but I'm not sure about that. It seems that Google has a bunch of tools to help you get things indexed. See https://support.google.com/webmasters/b ... swer=35120

you know that using the Search button to the right of your PM's works way better than the Google search bar, right?

I'm kind of embarrassed to say I never noticed that search function before. I've always used the Google search.

Forum searches tend to be problematic, it's not exclusive to this site. IGN is even worse, or at least it was back when I posted there.

Yes, I know that but it shouldn't have to be that way. That's my point. I find the google search to be more convenient for me (I use Chrome so I can type in site:racketboy.com <some search terms>)

The big box at the top of the site is very prominent and I think it's what most people use.
