Re: Gunbird - High Scores
I have the same problem. In a typical run, I bomb once max, and there is no reason to not bomb.

Re: Gunbird - High Scores
I just had 1/2 a dozen runs in the 290-320K range.
I'm very close to a real nice run. I'm hitting stage 4 fully intact steadily now - but as soon as I enter the game is just so tough - dying right off the bat, then coasting to the boss and for whatever reason, dying twice on him. Frustrating - but, like I said, pretty close (I think) to clearing that and actually being in good shape (maybe 2 lives just before the extend).
@Chaz - what's yr best stage 1 score, or rather, do you know what the highest possible score is for stage 1. I had a no miss 85K a couple times and I am thinking that might be the highest possible?

Re: Gunbird - High Scores
It definitely depends on the level, 85k seems pretty solid.

I can regulary get to level 4 now, but can't beat it yet. The boat part of the boss is pretty manic and I'm not sure how to avoid the dragon part of it yet.
I can also get to level 3 with all lives and a stock of bombs, but as Mike says, the game goes crazy and starts adding extra sprays into patterns that I thought I knew which is damn annoying.
Had a few really good runs last night, was hoping to move up a rank but my eyes had had enough. Everytime I blinked I could see orange bullets.

Re: Gunbird - High Scores
Need to get on a computer so I can update, but here are the results of a credit today.
Dunpeal2064 - 463,800 - Stage 5 - Yuan Nang - PCB
No miss up to the Stage 4 boss, got to him with no bombs. Died, and when dropping my first bomb of that life, died again.
Managed to hit the extend on stage 5, but could not make it through the slew of bosses.

Damn thats pushed the bar up a bit. I played for a bit last night and kepy getting to the lv4 boss but couldnt beat him. Going to play some more tonight though, I think I've got the pattern now just need to concentrate.
I've noticed that my score at the end of each level seems to be getting lower, although I'm hanging on to my lives a lot longer.

Re: Gunbird - High Scores
I think the score depends on the level, and where it is at in the rotation.
If you can make it past the stage 4 boss, stage 5 has a lot of pillars. I got stuck and bombed, and got the extend, and was at 420k just from that bomb. So, I think stage 5 weilds a lot of potential points, and since it can't change position, you can actually learn how the patterns will be each time.
I wish there was a stage select/practise mode on the PCB.... shit, there could possibly be, I'll have to check out the manual.
The nice thing is, suvival = score. If you can nudge your way past the first 4 stages, the extend is within reach.

Re: Gunbird - High Scores
There doesnt seem to be a level select in Saturn Version, I've looked. Would be nice though to just be able to practise a level, I don't want to foul up the high score table by using continues. I know using a continue increments the left digit of the score, but I don't want to get it to the point that I can't get on there anymore.

Re: Gunbird - High Scores
Oh, Gunbird doesn't reset your score when you continue? I honestly have never even tried putting in a continue.
Thats a good idea though, may as well just credit feed to stage 5 when I don't get there on one credit. I don't get that fancy score-saving option, so I don't have to worry about filling up my board.
I'm surprised the port doesn't have level select. I bet there is a code to do such. I'll look into it.

What is the stage 4 boss worth? 20K? I'm hitting stage 4 boss regularly, dying out now around 310-325K range. I keep assuming i'll hit stage 5 at 350K+ and easily reach the extend.
Wish i'd held the SAT version a bit longer to compare. It seemed a bit easier on SAT, at first anyways. Now i'm at about the same spot though. Stage 4 boss every run - starting to get annoying dying 2-3 times at same spot. :/
