I decided to check out Gamers Clique today and it was pretty disappointing!! :(

The selection of retro was mediocre at best and systems were overpriced. San Jose needs better retro stores well the Bay Area in general with the exception of 4Jays in Antioch which is always excellent!! 8)

Yeah. We need more stores badly but I guess retro gamers aren't as prevalent here (I know the majority reside in the east coast) in San Jose and in the west coast for that matter.

Gamers Clique is still pretty young and I don't know where they are getting their stock from. Remember what I said about the N64 they were selling? Pricing an N64 for 64 bucks is laughable. My experience wasn't too bad since I scored Snake Rattle n' Roll, Deja Vu, and Shadowgate for low prices when I went with the latter two being games I've been actively looking for. Otherwise, I would've walked away empty handed and as completely disappointed as you were. The common boxed Genesis games they were selling were quite pricey from what I remember as well. It's a store where if it has Mario, Zelda, Sonic, etc slapped on the cover it automatically gets overpriced. Out of curiosity, I brought one of my new Sega Team Players' to see what the trade-in value would be like. They wanted $2 for it... in store credit. :( Don't bother trading with these guys if you want cash. If you do, you'll get way less than you would with store credit, and I mean way less. Even the amount of store credit they give you isn't enough to justify trading in your stuff. Just when I thought there was some hope with a new game store opening up with retro games it turns out to be a flop so far, save for the few cheap NES games you might be able to score (no Mario, Zelda, Sonic games, etc) that manage to be cheap like I did. If I were you, I wouldn't bother driving all to way to the store unless your in the neighborhood. I'd give the store some time (a year at most) for improvement and if they continue to overprice and carry a mediocre selection, then there goes another local option to pick up retro game goodies.
What a maneuver!

We'll have to stop by next time. :)

Also, going back to Gamers Clique. I just remembered something. I caught the owner/manager cleaning cartridge contacts with sandpaper. No wonder why those poor carts looked scratched up at the store. :(

It's only about a 10 min drive from me. I think I'll stop by today and let you know what I think of it. Their reviews seem to say that it's a great store with a good selection of games.

I love that store i go there a lot the owner is cool i spent like an hour in there the first time i went just looking at all the retro gaming stuff which is a lot of time to spend considering how small the store is. I also asked the guy a million questions. the pricing is very fair i bought a in the box mario 3 with all the original paperwork that goes inside of it and it was in excellent condition for $30 the closest ive seen to that on ebay goes for over $50. he also had a copy of FFVII he was selling for $45. he also will ask what you are looking for and hold omn to it for you if you go there a few times. he also asked me if i had a list i wanted to give to him because he also has a lot of stuff that isnt displayed. i think its a really great place but then again i havent been to any other retro store
