You're being pretty vague. Name one non-fighter that would have improved from having L and R replaced with C and Z, or one 2D game that wouldn't benefit from an arcade stick.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:No, all those problems come up playing any kind of game. The Dreamcast has fewer buttons than the Saturn, and people complained that the Saturn was missing the two buttons from the PlayStation. Buying an extra controller shouldn't be a requirement to play certain games properly, and certainly doesn't make it okay that the Dreamcast lacked things which should have been standard. Especially when they were present on the Saturn.GameMasterGuy wrote:Everyone B'AWWing over the DC controller just needs a fight stick as well. Bad D-Pad? Fight stick. Four buttons? Fight stick. Memory card takes up too much room? Fight stick. Angled corners at the bottom too annoying? Fight stick. Seriously, most of the complaints only come into play when playing a Fighter... in which case you can get a fight stick for under $20 on Amazon.

I didn't say replaced with C and Z. That would still be the same amount of buttons. I personally prefer gamepads to arcade sticks so I feel there are plenty of games sans shmups and fighters that don't really benefit from a stick.GameMasterGuy wrote: You're being pretty vague. As far as games that really need the extra buttons, there's not many since all Dreamcast games were basically tailored for the Dreamcast and later ported over to other consoles. When a console has more buttons than the one the game is being ported too though, you start to see problems (Symphony of the Night on Saturn comes to mind, also I believe MechWarrior 2). However it's not the buttons (or lack of) that really gets me. It's the fact that Sega already had more buttons on their previous console and decided to take a step back. Especially since the Dreamcast was based on arcade hardware and was tailored for arcade games. You'd think Sega would have realized this was a dumb move. Developers complained, consumers complained, and it's a valid complaint.

Dreamcast controller is godly. One of the best of all time along with SNES and GameCube.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I never liked the Saturn controller. I find the button layout awkward, with the two rows of three buttons. I guess it emulates arcade button layouts but feels odd on a controller. I dislike the Genesis and 3DO controllers for the same reason (and I guess the CD-I controller is like this too not that I'll ever play one lol). I prefer buttons clustered together in a diamond shape (like SNES, PlayStation, Xbox, Dreamcast, etc...)

It's all a matter of opinion. Personally, I love the 6 button layout. There are people here that love the Dreamcast controller and N64. I personally think they blow chunks. Luckily all consoles generally have a plethora of 3rd party controllers.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Dreamcast controller is godly. One of the best of all time along with SNES and GameCube.

Unfortunately, there's no controller I've found that has a 6 button layout and 4 shoulder buttons. Of course, this is likely because it's not needed, since the d-pad on most controllers has been assigned to action-button work these days.

This just made me realise something. The Dreamcast does not have one 2D platform game.GameMasterGuy wrote:You're being pretty vague. Name one non-fighter that would have improved from having L and R replaced with C and Z, or one 2D game that wouldn't benefit from an arcade stick.
At least not in Europe or the US...
There's Napple Tale in Japan. But that's really the only one I can think of...
Maybe Sorcerian. But that's more a platform action RPG... lol
Any others you can think of?...
EDIT Sorcerian

In the 10 yrs i have lived in pa the family has never come to visit me, they live less than a hour away. I have went to see them a few times only to find out the moved and had to track them down. I get most my family updates by checking my sister in laws facebook status. And i know what i am going to write next i will hear some shit over but i can honestly and with no remorse what so ever state that my mother can not die quick enough or with enough pain to please me. She deserves to suffer for the abuse she put me and my brother through.

I can't believe she got this for me; I've been trying to get a copy for months.
Super awesome. I think I'm gonna marry that girl; she's a keeper.

I'm not too crazy about the Saturn controlller either. (The second one, the one everyone goes gaga ever).
Always found the official Genesis 6 button pad more comfy.

Extraordinarily comfy for such a small controller...AppleQueso wrote:Always found the official Genesis 6 button pad more comfy.
