night trap on the sega cd was pretty damn good for its time i hear its a "cult classic" now...yes the cheesy singing section but for what? 1994? (dont qoute me) was quite refreshing from 2d side scrollers

the 32x version of it offered a bigger window and better "full motion" video

i had a sega cd since i was a kid and it gets alot of abuse for being rubbish and you know what? it is xD but i will have a soft spot for it always...other games worthy of mention apart from sonic cd are...road avenger..sewer shark..and though most games have all simalar *press button when prompted* style of playing it was the 90s and those mini steps led up to todays cutting edge tech and is worthy of a place amongst any game collection

regarding a 32x? its one of the few i dont own i know it has a few good titles but the price of em has rocketed the last couple of years

You must be getting Night Trap mixed up with some other game. It not a platformer by any definition of the word.

He said it was refreshing "from" 2d side scrollers - I undertand him to be in agreement with you, and suggesting that the game stood out because it wasn't one.

Even so, the grainy FMV game wasn't exactly new, or Night Trap particularly unique among them. Despite that, I'd still give the Sega CD the nod over the 32X - both have standout games, but the 32X's library is slim to start with, much less if you subtract all the good titles that are available (and often better) on other consoles.

that era was dominated by side scrollers...then these new types of games for the sega cd with video and voices etc came about...ergo refreshing.. sonic 2...wardner...chuck rock then BOOM road avenger, cobra command snatcher even? unless there are some FMV games for the megadrive i should of referenced instead? ha

point still valid no?

Also PC CD-ROM games, remember. Night Trap might have been early enough (particularly for consoles) to stand out, but there wound up being a glut of (mostly) terrible FMV games accompanying CD storage.

If I recall there were a few games that required both the Sega CD and the 32x add-on. What I remember they were called Sega CD 32x. There were only like five games for this setup. One of those was an "enhanced" version of Night Trap.

Noteworthy quality titles for the 32X in my opinion are pretty few. I'd recommend:

Virtua Figther
Virtua Racing Deluxe
NBA Jam Tournament Edition
Mortal Kombat II
Star Wars Arcade
Knuckles Khaotix
Shadow Squadron

That being said, you might find more enjoyment in investing in a Sega CD. Who knows, you might be able to get ahold of both for pretty cheap!
