Agree completely - it stunted the innovation and quality of the game for sure.jay_red wrote:But this happened right after the 2k series came out with a better game and offered it for the budget price of $19.99. So it is hard to look past EA being the ones to blame here, and I dont play sports games, but I have heard enough people talk about the yearly installments offering almost no innovation, so it was bad for the market in general.retrosportsgamer wrote:The contempt around the exclusive NFL license is a two way street. The nfl wanted that for marketing and branding reasons also. Now, the quality of games produced with this license is a valid point.
EA's stock has been getting blasted recently so I've seen their name around that as well also.

They also created a fake controversy around "Dante's Inferno" in where they gathered a bunch of people to pose as religious fundamentalists who wanted the game to be banned.

once upon a time there was a man names trip hawkins, when he left his job at apple computers as the stragety and marketing director in 1982, he formed Ea, he switched to form 3do in 1991, and since then, ea has only been the the largest 3rd party producer, but they no longer hold the title as the worlds largest video game publisher, they now make mostly sports games. but after 3do decided to make the 3do console, they lost alot of money, and he had to bail them out, at least they left us with armymen. Now he is in charge of a company called digital chocololate. they bought sandlot games. http://games.digitalchocolate.com/

Pretty sad to hear those truthful comments about EA & Activision. I remember in the Atari 800/2600 days when those companies put out the best games. How the mighty have fallen.

Used to be a decent game company, now they're pretty shitty. Too many flashy Hollywood games and cookie-cutter sports titles. Last decent EA game I purchased was DarkSpore, which is crippled by ridiculous DRM (of course).
And Bioware games have completely gone to hell since EA bought the company.

Okay, I know I'm being a complete noob, but I have to ask....for what does "DRM" stand?

If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

Digital Rights Management. In short, copy-protection. Normally not a big deal, but because developers think that PC gamers are all pirates and a niche market, they end up getting screwed over with crap like only being allowed to install a game 2-3 times (Spore), requiring constant online access (Ubisoft), or in EA's case, creating a download manager that scans your computer without permission (Origin).ElkinFencer10 wrote:Okay, I know I'm being a complete noob, but I have to ask....for what does "DRM" stand?
Also, EA has been hated on for a while for sucking studios dry then putting them down, pulling all their games from steam when told they have to sell their DLC on steam too, intentionally leaving bugs in games that are only fixed if you buy the next expansion (Sims 3), and cutting pretty major content to have it be day 1 on-disc DLC (Mass Effect 3).
Also, EA is trying to do damage control by saying that the Consumerist thing was a bunch of anti-gay groups votebombing because they disliked gay relationships in Mass Effect 3. They've also said that the only people who dislike ME3 are homophobes, the same thing they said about DA2.

I was beyond pissed about Mass Effect 3, and I think gay guys are the most adorable people on the planet. It has nothing to do with the damn same sex couple; it was about taking a shit on a keyboard and calling it an ending.AmishSamurai wrote:Also, EA is trying to do damage control by saying that the Consumerist thing was a bunch of anti-gay groups votebombing because they disliked gay relationships in Mass Effect 3. Im not old enough to remember the 2600. But EA was huge back then, they pretty much invented 3rd party development alongside activision (another company currently in the muck). Shame what happened to them.
