Zelda isnt an rpg? (Its a dungeon crawler isnt it?)

In my view, Zelda is definitely not an RPG - not even Zelda 2. To me, a "role-playing" game is exactly that: a game where you play different roles/characters at the same time. In any Legend of Zelda game, who do you play as? Link. No one else. You play the role of one character in almost EVERY game, so saying that Zelda is an RPG simply because you play as Link is not an argument from my point of view. Is Metroid or Mario an RPG (Mario RPG excluded ) series? If you're going by the definition that you play the role of Mario or Samus, then you would have to say yes. But, of course they're not. That's my perspective!

If Zelda games are RPGs, then Devil May Cry games, Castlevania games and God of Wars games are RPGs. The only difference is that Zelda games have more talking. Unless having a town section where you can talk to people and get hints makes a game an RPG, then Zelda is a pretty clear example of an action-adventure game.

Role playing in general yes. But a role playing video game was termed after the pen & paper rpgs like d&d. So video game rpgs follow a formula based on the adaption of pen & paper rpgs to the gaming screen.
