What's this big fuss with EA?
What's this big fuss with EA?
All of a sudden they become like the center of attention and gamers are like throwing bricks at them. Not that I care, I've only ever bought one game from them and that's Shadows of the Damned.
Re: What's this big fuss with EA?
People have been throwing bricks at EA for years. This isn't all of a sudden.JC48573 wrote:All of a sudden they become like the center of attention and gamers are like throwing bricks at them.

oh, so what's wrong? something about their business practice am I right?
Re: What's this big fuss with EA?
I haven't been following too closely, but here's some of their practices that I've heard about/been affected by in the last two generations:
Clinging to established franchises/licenses (ie. Star Wars, BatMan, etc.) without creating their own IPs
For a few years in the 6th Generation, EA's Sports games only had online capabilities on the PS2.
Signing exclusive contracts with the NFL (I think they got some other sports associations too)
Bullshit DRM on their PC games (they've since gotten rid of this)

The fact that they basically buy up and coming developers milk them dry and then kill them off and dump there bodies in a ditch. Like what they did with Pandemic. And don't get me started on the DRM codes.

Also PC DRM, Mass Effect 3's ending, disappointments like the rebooted Medal of Honor, bringing back Syndicate as an FPS, etc.
But keep in mind, no matter how much you hear us complain about EA, it's nothing compared to our contempt for Capcom.

Activision are still the worst in my book.

Besides everything else mentioned in this thread, they also used to give their employees extremely long hours but they've cut back on that in the last few years.

To be honest, that almost sounds like game developing in general. EA was probably extra worse about it, but yeah.insanecow0 wrote:Besides everything else mentioned in this thread, they also used to give their employees extremely long hours but they've cut back on that in the last few years.
