Haven't really explored social media myself. Of all the mentioned social media sites, Twitter is the only thing I'm using.retrosportsgamer wrote:I think this will be a valuable thread (just finding it now).
I try to post something new every 7-10 days, although March and early April were insanely busy so my last post about 10 days later than I wanted. I have a very specific focus which has helped as I have a number of followers and the same contributors in the comment sections. I tag the heck out of my stuff, which really drives search engine hits. I haven't figured out how I want to categorize everything yet though.
Each subsequent month I've seen increased traffic and I try to spread the word a couple of different ways: Twitter, Reddit, Pinterest and Stumbled Upon. I've held out on Facebook for so long but 70 billion or whatever hits a quarter probably means I should explore it.
I also use Oldgamereviewer.com to post teasers that link back to my site (it is a loose invite only to be added). I get a lot of traffic from Stumbled upon off of the arrangement that site has with them.

I used facebook's ad program recently. You can decide how much you want to spend per day (min $1/day budget with min .01/click). After spending $3, they offered me a $100 coupon. All I had to do was watch a video and take a quiz. I upped my payment per click and budget. At the end, I had over 130 likes to my page and around 400 clicks, with close to 200 of those leading to my site. I was holding a contest at the time, which gave users who liked the page, joined my forum, made a post, and commented with their forum name a chance to win a super mario land 2 download. The ad shows only part of the post, and cut it off after "To enter, like this page." My guess is most people saw that, assumed that was all they had to do, and didn't bother reading the entire post. I don't know how else I could get so many likes when I specifically stated only the first 15 to participate would have a chance at winning (not that I'm complaining).
You can target by interests, age, race, education level, marital status, and more. I guess I got lucky, but if you're having a contest or just have a quality site, it's worth a shot.
