SNES Game Genie Problem
Okay, so I just realized that I've got a problem with my SNES Game Genie tonight. I've got an SNES Mini and (I think) a Version 1 Game Genie (the hyphens appear on all five lines before entering any codes), so it won't work.
I'm thinking I'll have to buy an older Model 1 SNES, but I want to make sure most of you guys think that's the best course of action. From what I've read, even getting a Version 2 Game Genie would only get me 2 functional code lines. Do I have any other options?

Re: SNES Game Genie Problem
I dont know anything about game genies, try cleaning it, inserting it differently, slightly too the back, or center. pretend its a broken cartridge, you could try a game shark instead, I believe they had one of those. be sure to make sure its not a game thats causing issues. it actually may be the system, newer snes clones(snes portable) cant play kirby super star, ect. but the original snes, and model 2 snes were both realeased during the same time period, so Im not sure. sorry

Re: SNES Game Genie Problem
Well, from what I've read online, I know there are compatibility issues with the SNES Mini and Game Genies, and I can get the Game Genie to load and let me enter codes no problem, and the games load when I press Start, but none of the codes work.

Yeah, I thought that Game Genie was the only cheat device for Super Nintendo, but I'll double check. Maybe there's another with which I was unfamiliar.

Re: SNES Game Genie Problem
SNES The Game Genie does not work with Super Nintendo games that contain a performance enhancing chip (e.g. Super FX, SA-1, and S-DD1 chip) such as Star Fox, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Doom and Street Fighter Alpha 2.

Is the code-enable switch on the GG toggled on? IIRC, the SNES and Genesis versions had them -message from chat above.
The lockout chip in the newer model of the SNES prevents you from doing some stuff, although I'm not sure what (I think it's something to do w/ PAL and NTCS or something like that). But it prevents me from using a game genie w/ it! Will disabling the lockout chip allow me to use the game genie?

Were you trying it with any of those games, or is it another one? If you're talking about a chip within the system itself, then that's something I've not run into personally (then again, I've only used the original model SNES)

Yeah, the switch on the Game Genie was turned on, and I made sure the games didn't have the Super FX chip because I knew about that issue.

Re: SNES Game Genie Problem
I was looking at SNES Action Replays on eBay, and unless I'm not looking at the right thing, one of those would cost me more than a Model 1 SNES

Re: SNES Game Genie Problem
Does anyone know if any of the third party "Famiclones" that play SNES games are compatible with a Game Genie? I have my SNES Mini that I would use normally, but if I could get by with a cheap clone just to screw around with the Game Genie, I'll totally do that.
