Some have great potential.

Look at a Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 board. Right now, its worth a pretty penny, but look at how popular Dai Ou Jou has become after it was figured out how to swap the EEPROMS to run DDP DOJ BL on the original board. So, DOJ was worth $350, and BL was at what, $800? Now that they know how to swap them, no way that game is worth less than $450, and I can see it going higher.

Now, Futari 1.5 is at about $700? And Futari BL is worth probably $1200? Imagine the value of 1.5 if someone finds a way to swap the ROMS out to allow you to play both versions of the game. I'd imagine that would at least add $100 to the value.

Its all chance though. An Akai Katana kit has held its value extreamly well, whereas Dodonpachi Dai Fukkatsu 1.5 has dropped a decent amount since its release.

I would not consider attempting an investment, just because if I want to invest my money, there are better ways to do it, but it is interesting to see how these prices change.

Even with Ketsui, a game that has a fantastic port, possibly superior to the PCB, that game still fetches $700 for a loose pcb. Its nice to know that, as long as people are into the genre, its unlikely you will loose a bunch of money.

N64 is down w/the exception of (2) titles, PSX rpg's are down significantly from 18 months ago and even a year ago, PS2 is down, etc.

Earthbound is a unique case as it always turns up in these "rare" game articles.

TG16 seems to be pretty high right now too for some reason.

There are very good EB repros around, though it is largely frowned upon and most forums won't allow them to be sold as they are not in need of translation, etc.

The demand is manufactured, mostly be people who've never played the game, imo.

I agree with this, I bought and played Earthbound when it was first out and found it to be quite the odd game. Not sure what the fuss is about.

That's part of the fuss. The oddness of the game is endearing.

Rarest game I own? Anything related to the Halcyon system automatically outranks anything else in my collection in terms of rarity, so my (disc only) copy of Chargers VS Raiders would be the rarest game I own. If not that, then Cartridge #4: Naval Battle, Speed Ball, Blastaway for the Coleco Telstar Arcade would be it. Rated an R9 by the Digital Press Guide, and valued at $175 loose.

When I made the post 5 or so weeks ago I was referring to Clay Fighter ($75-95 range, up from $45-55 a year ago) and Pokemon Stadium 2 ($20-25 range, up from $12-17 a year ago). Every other major title ($10+ games for N64 library purposes) was trending down - particularly the traditional bigs/rares (ISS 2000, Worms Armageddon, Harvest Moon, Ogre Battle, Bomberman 2nd, Castlevania LoD, etc).

What about Conker's Bad Fur Day? That one's a good $40 minimum.

It's been slowly but steadily trending up for the past five or six years. When I first got into N64, it was the most expensive standard release N64 game, clocking in at a wopping $30. Now it's more like $45-$50.

To put things in perspective as to how much more expensive the N64 is in Europe, consider this, fellow Americans: Conker here is about equal to Banjo Tooie over there.
