After the disappointing Broken Thunder (whose only redeeming factor was it's brilliant Thunderforce inspired soundtrack), it looks like we are getting a true Thunderforce sequel. From what's on the scans, Sega is developing and publishing the game under license of Tecnosoft (who are actually now owned by a pachinko company from what I understand). The game is rendered in 3D on a 2D horizontal plane.
Pretty hot stuff.

Domestic or Import, either way I am all set for more Shooter goodness. Only Thunderforce game I own is part 5 for the PS1, but it was a lot of fun. Maybe the Genesis one will show up on VC someday. Anyway, it is always good to hear another Shooter is coming down the pipe. I am trying to expand my PS2 shooter collection, so this is good news indeed.

Hells yeah, just started playing "Lightening" Force
The backgrounds and multiple layers of scrolling are awesome. Too bad the original dev team isn't making it. Hopefully it uses sprites. Don't get me wrong I love 3D shooters too, but the cool 2D art is what made this series dope.

Indeed Technosoft being owned by a pachinko company is sad to think about (wait, isn't Sega a subsidiary of Sega-Sammy, of which Sammy also makes pachinko machines! Pachinko is taking over the world) ...but I'm not worried because Okano is the lead designer/director. Gunstar Super Heroes, Astro Boy: Omega Factor and Segagaga are all six flavors of awesome.

They may be six flavours (for you British types) of awesome, but they have nothing in common with a straight up shooter like Thunderforce. I like to believe that talented people will always produce good stuff, but some genres really hang people up. And many developers thing shmups are easy only to discover that getting that magical balance is really tough.
That said, I'll give this project the benefit of the doubt, but I'll still be a little worried. That and I can't play it anyway because it would require a modern console ;)
