Xbox 360 won't let me play oXbox games.

So today I decided to fire up my 360 for the first time in years so I could play some compatible oXbox games, but I need to update. Fine, so I update and it still won't let me play. Next update, and the dashboard changes. So I pop in Republic Commando and it still won't let me play. Can anyone tell me what's wrong?

Do you have a HDD (You need one to use Backwards compatibility)?

Just double checking.

Are you getting an error message when trying to play? I know the system usually needs to grab support files on a per-game basis, but should be telling you that - I mention since you said you allowed the 360 to update, making it sound like the usual situation is not having it on the internet.

Not all xbox games are backwards compatible. I get that message when attempting to play Toejam and Earl III.

Bastards, thats one of the only xbox games I like.

That likely just means that it has to download the support files, as Republic Commando is on the list of BC games. Is it connected to the internet?

I think it's connected. The network screen tells me it's connected, but the upper right hand corner of the main menu tells me it's offline.
