I may not have worded it right earlier. You hold down the button, and your ship "takes" the bomb and all that power stored inside it goes to your main gun and your sub weapon. Of course, a weapon that has a good range or rapid fire (Hammer Duke weapon 6/Knife Edge weapon 7) will work best.
Remember though, it's only as good and as long-lasting as your current meter level. The meter has *2* levels. You will get a level with a sub-weapon pickup, and when you die, you always start with the meter at 1 level. Naturally, if you wait for the meter to reach level 2 and full pink, you will have more time to use the "bomb" on yourself.

Glad to see someone else notices the music in game too (but of course, I know of your great tastes in the listening thread) -- original Zanac theme in Area 1 (stage 2), the cloud theme in Area 3 (stage 4), lots more good stuff too.

FINALLY making some progress. Once I understood the weapon upgrades, it was really a matter of finding which ones worked best for me. I'm really proud that I at least cracked a million.

Sweet score Noise. I started off with Hammer Duke, great power, but a bit on the slow side (like the Mosquito in 19XX), but dang does that Knife Edge zip around!
Compile goodness this month -- great classic developer here.
