Paper Mario and Conker's Bad Fur Day?

Those are the last notable releases I can think of.

They were both in 2001, so it was after the Ps2 came out. N64 was pretty irrelevant by then.
Lol, poor Nintendo 64. Even I was turned off the brand by that machine.

Oh, here's a fun swan song: SNK Gal Fighters for the Neo Geo Pocket Color. SNK even acknowledged that there was no way for the game to be profitable - they just wanted to go out on a bang.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Carts were such a poor move on Nintendo's part, really killed their potential library. 296 games is a pretty puny library for such a high profile system.

I really have to wonder what the N64 library might've looked like if they'd gone with discs. I imagine Nintendo would've had no problem keeping up with Sony.

And Square for that matter? I always forget the details, it doesn't sound like Square or Sony formed any kind of bond, but it was literally the disc format that swayed Square to join them exclusively for that gen.

Carts are charming, but technically yeah it was a horrible decision. I remember the N64 ones cost $5 or something like that a cart. Anyone remember $70 new releases? Sheesh... lol.

Remember that Nintendo was kinda paying the price for they way they did business in the late 80's and early 90's. They owned the market place before Sony came along. Nintendo's business practices would probably be found to be illegal if they did the same shit today.

Much of Sony's success with Square and other key 3rd parties was due simply to them NOT being Nintendo. Technology considerations were a close second.

Wait, weren't Nintendo's business practices found to be illegal anyway? There does sorta seem to be a karma to it though.

That begs the question... why not Sega then?

I'd definitely pick Sakura Wars ~So Long My Love~ for PS2. I had been waiting for years for Sakura Wars to come out in the US and when it finally did, it was too late in the PS2's lifespan to really gain a following.

my picks for other consoles would be:
Sega Genesis - Vectorman 2 (It wasn't as good as the first one, but I still had a lot of fun with it.)
Sega CD - Lunar: Eternal Blue
Sega Saturn - Panzer Dragoon Saga
Game Boy Color - Dragon Warrior III
original Xbox - Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 4 (IMO Xbox's DDR games are way stronger than the PS2 titles and Ultramix 4 was fantastic)

Shantae was a very nice swan song for the Game Boy Color.

I have wondered that, too. I think it was probably a lack of faith in Sega to not fuck up. Sega CD, Sega 32X, the early release of the Saturn...people were pretty scared of depending on Sega to help them make money.

Bucky O Hare for the NES
God of War 2 for Playstation 2 (although PS2 is STILL around and kicking)
Perfect Dark for N64
Many later CDi games had amazing visuals but none were exclusive to the CDi
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box
