Cartoons/movies that came from video games
Re: list of video games that got turned into cartoons/movies
I actually liked the live-action Tekken movie. It was just a ridiculous movie with some really fun to watch fight scenes.

If you are going to base it on Tekken, atleast use the characters trademark moves for christ sakes. All the drama, relationship stuff etc crap is irrelevant, aslong as you make the actual fight scenes resemble the game that the movie is based on.Czernobog wrote:I actually liked the live-action Tekken movie. I really dont get it why people who make video game movies try to cater to "normal movie goers", making movies that claim to be based upon games but dont really share anything common with the actual games, while simultaneously trying to make the movies as close to Hollywood block buster-type of movies as possible. As a result, video game movies do not satisfy actual fans of the games, as they are nothing like the games and they make up stuff&mess up lore. And the non gamer audience wont watch the movie anyways, as they think that the movie is only meant for gamers, while in reality they are inferioir knock offs of actual action movies aimed at the very same audience.
Why ruin a product to please a crowd that wont buy it anyways? Broadening the audience might in theory sound like a good idea, but in reality you will make more money and an infinitely better product by actually focusing on the core group rather than trying to be a jack of all trades and attracting new-comers, as that core group wont be intrested in the movie if its storyline and other key elements are butchered in an attempt to attract alternative audiences.

Frogger, Q*Bert, Dragon's Lair and Space Ace got one of those illustrated radio shows made for children by children we now call "cartoons".
There are also many Japanese ones: Tales of, Fire Emblem, Beatmania's Epic of Zektchbach, etc.

There was a Battletoads cartoon. It never moved beyond the pilot.

I have to say I agree with Brunoafh - nothing good ever came of this idea and it should be burried in concrete before somebody else tries to cash in on it, but since it is relevant to my interests and I won't stop watching these steaming piles...
Some anime OVAs and short series got made of some nintendo/super nintendo games:
Chrono Trigger (Nuumamonja) - A short - kinda not good, but has good music
Ninja Gaiden - bad
Megaman: Wishing Upon A Star, Future Beware, Appearance in Japan (pilots for the much worse american cartoon)- not too bad, I really wish they'd produced this instead of the :derp: gaunt drivvel they did make... There's also also a horrible CG/live action mess by an insane director with cash (terrible).
Kirby: Right Back at Ya - Boring and forgotten for a reason tho it had way too many episodes.
Mario Amada (3 ep. OVA): The Great Mission to Save Princess Peach , etc. - It's fandubbed badly on youtbe, really weird no matter what.
TwinBee - 8 of 'em - 4 produced (dull or borderline ecchi), 4 made for the hell of it out of recorded scripts and no production - these are unwatchable!.
Final Fantasy Unlimited (also Legend of the Crystals). Both kinda bad imo.
Darkstalkers - low budget and confusing, not worth watching unless you really love the series.
Battle Arena Toshinden - 2 eps. - I don't remember watching these but I did at some point. i'd remember them if they were decent.
Art of Fightng (Battle spirits) - Also low budget and bad.
Bomberman Jetters (game based on series - it's a a viscious cycle with this series). I only watched a few eps, but wasn't compelled to watch more.
Those ones I've watched - You're not missing much if you haven't seen them.
I have a bookmark I made to research further if I run out of interesting anime to watch - it lists a whle lot more:
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... eOfTheGame
I'd have to say, that out of the pile of them if I had to pick two to rewatch it'd be Megaman and Final Fantasy Unlimited. I find no redeeming factors in the rest.
Oh wait! I really enjoyed Final Fantasy VII: Last Order - I watched it after completing as much of Crisis Core as I cared to then started a semi-speedrun playthrough of Final Fantasy 7. It made the game much more enjoyable than the last playthrough. It's definitely top of my list of game-anime to watch.
