Collecting every release for a console hasn't really ever appealed to me, like Hatta said there are too many stinkers.

I have to agree, why collect bad games.

There's no system I would want to collect every game for -- even ISOs.

I'm sort of the opposite, I can't imagine paying money for all of the games, but I absolutly must have the entire library of a system if I download ROMs. I guess it's just my form of a collection but I really hate seeing my Dreamcast/Saturn/Sega CD folders in my computer with only a handful of ISOs compared to my fullsets of NES/SNES/N64/MS/GG/Mega Drive etc. Still, all those ISOs take up precious GBs, and when your on a laptop you need every GB you can get.

I already have more than I should. I am a bit of collector, as I can't bring myself to delete some games even though I may never play it.
But I wouldn't make much of an effort to collect everything.

Yeah, that's the annoying thing about fullsets. I think some time I'm going to go through all my roms and put the games I actually play in a separate folder, and maybe delete the hacks and extra region roms, both to cut down size and so I don't have to scroll through a huge folder of roms to find the one I want. Still though, whenever I can I grab fullsets if I have space because I want to be sure they never get lost to history.

Good to see that the thread has sparked sme decent conversation. I am leaning towards going the genesis route, mainly due to the sentimenal value of that being the system I had that I had the most memorys of, and in 30-40 years I can show my grandchildren the collection and they can say "What the hell is a cartridge?"

To continue on the "collect what you want" above just collect them all (we an't Pokemons). I do not have the cash to get every game on a system, but I do like seening pic's of ppl that do. Digitpress has the "Room of Doom" that fun for a few hours...

I would like to add that I, along with buying games that _I_ want to collect, also like to get deals. When Phantasy Star 4 for Genesis came out at $100, I waited...found if for $30 at K*B a few months later. It's a double bonus because I get the game that I want for my collection and the thrill of getting a bargain. I'll pick up some stinkers just be cause it's a buck...like Wonderdog for Sega CD, Stormload for Genny or even V.I.P for PS1 (it was a quarter!)

Now getting all the US released Turbo Grafx HuCards could be the next easiest quest after getting all 32x games. Would getting every Pico game be hard or easy? Or houw about arcade stuff, like every version of SF or all the Metal Slugs? Or better yet, all the MVS carts (forget about box, matching serials just loose carts).

I'd go Dreamcast because it's doable. Most of the games are affordable. It also wouldn't take you that long to get all the domestic releases. Plus, it had quite a few good US released games that are still pretty damn impressive even when compared to some modern games. The DC is technically a last gen system, so many of its games still hold up well.

You don't want to do a US released collection for the Saturn since most of its best games are imports(and fucking expensive). The Saturn's a bit more for the hardcore collector with a big wallet. Although it's nothing compared to getting a collection of Neo Geo home system cartridges, which is pretty much out of the financial reach of most gamers

The Genesis is a great system with great games and most of the domestic titles are easy to collect and cheap. However, given the somewhat cult status of the Dreamcast, I'd say a collection of its games is more impressive than a collection of Genesis games. Plus DC games have some inherent value since they can't be copied perfectly and bad discs cannot be resurfaced. So a collection of good condition DC games is worth having. Genesis games have less inherent value as you can easily emulate them on any computer. Honestly, most Genesis games have little if any collectible value at all. Except for a few expensive imports like Alien Soldier or Panarama Cotton. Not knocking the system or its games, I just think from a collector's stand point it has little value compared to other systems.

Heheh, actually, if forced to pick from that list...probably try for Saturn titles. There just seems more there that interests me.

I've always only collected games that I like. Even with a ROM collection, only a list of perfects or games I have a strong like for will be in there. So yeah, I think someone having the entire US library of a system is a waste of time and money but that is still very hardcore of you ;-)
