Going out of my comfort zone - YS Seven (psp)

Post by env963 »

Trying some new things in gaming, picked up this based on reviews I have seen.

I have 2 hours under my belt of YS Seven. Man, took me freakin 30 minutes to beat the first boss! Damn it! I have it on normal. The action RPG threw me off. I knew its action based and not turn based, but for some reason it didnt click for a while. Yes, i realize now that i have to dodge and hit and dodge and hit.

Like I have mentioned earlier my short list of RPG's that I have beaten makes this game outside of what I have typically played. So far I am enjoying it. I hope i dont struggle the whole game. I changed the controls to better suit what I am more used to. (helped quite a bit)

List of RPG's beaten include:
FF7,FF8, FF9,FF10, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Parasite Eve, Legend Of Dragoon

Short list I know, but this game seems to be refreshing.

The Ys series is one of my favorites. I haven't played Seven yet, but I'll probably get it soon (like, later today haha).

Hope you enjoy it. There's couple of other Ys titles on the PSP you should check out as well.

Ys Seven is probably the best RPG on the system (sorry Persona, you can't compete with Ys soundtracks).

Thankfully, Ys Seven got rid of the jumping mechanic from Ys VI. I really don't like jumping in a top-down action game.

Oh god the jumping in Ys VI was TERRIBLE. One of the worst video game mechanics I've ever seen.

Make sure to use your guard to build up power attacks against those bosses.Since only making it to the first boss wait till you get up to boss 3 geez what a pain. Also grinding may help, but yeah most bosses are like comparable to shumps that are bullet hell (on nightmare at least).

Great game and dont forget about Felghana!

I've only played a translated ROM hack on an emulator for about 10 minutes. I'll probably check out the actual Super Famicom version later this year.

I can't imagine the jumping could be as bad as that stupid "dash jump" or whatever it was called in Ys VI...

Seven sounds like it kicks ass (though it kinda bothers me how they switched from Roman numerals to the word "seven" haha).

I can see about the roman numeral thing but I kinda like it spelled gives it more of a title. And to a new comer may not be to overwhelming "like man I got a lot of catching up to do"

It was actually my entry into the series, then chronicles still havent busted open my felghana yet.
