Be careful on your choice of MMC card. The N-Gage and even the QD aren't particularly prepared for huge MMC cards. At least this is what I understand.ADaggerThrough wrote:Oh... well, I may have overlooked that... XD
I've just managed to nab myself one for £15 (inc. p&p) so I'm quite pleased. Now I need to get a decent sized MMC card, anyone know where I can get one? I've seen cheap 1GB ones on play.com, would they do?
I had a 1GB MMC which I filled to about 80% and I only figured out it was because of being nearly full that I got a periodic and very annoying slowdown effect. I tried with a 512 MB MMC (again, nearly full) and got the same problem. I got so fed up about it I eventually did a thorough google search for it and figured it was probably due to the size of the MMCs. I found a file that supposedly fixes it, but I just tried and emptied the 512 MB a bit (still over 50%) and put the 1GB one at about 50% capacity and the slowdown went away in both cards.

Well my QD was delivered this morning. Not only was it £15 but it's also brand new in box. =D It looks and feels really good. The d-pad seems a little stiff, though. I'm not entirely sure about using it as my main phone because I'm not really used to it yet...
What file is this that apparently fixes the slowdown? I haven't even got an MMC yet or any games to play on it so currently it's just sitting there... Hopefully I'll be getting a decent MMC in a couple of days, though. Any apps I should download?
EDIT: Any good places to get N-Gage MMC's btw?

MMC: Plenty of places to try, I don't know what to recommend here.ADaggerThrough wrote:Well my QD was delivered this morning. Apps: I refer you to WoS guide:
http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.c ... n-gage.htm
One app you will probably want is called "FExplorer". If you are getting games that are "blizzard" stored, you will need the special installer thing as well.
"Fix" file: I got it here:
http://all-about-ngage.blogspot.com/200 ... s-fix.html
If the file is not there anymore let me know, I'm 99% sure I have the file stored somewhere (even though I never used it).
If you get these annoying periodic slowdowns (you will know it if you get them, like in every game - its not like Puzzle Bobble which is just an awful, awful port).

I've found an MMC card. It's only 120mb but it'll do for now. So far I've managed to install FExplorer (thanks for the link!) and the VSun SNES emulator. The SNES emulator, well... it's quite slow (only played Street Fighter II thus far though) and it asks me to pay after a minute or two, which is obviously annoying. I thought I could play the trial as much as I wanted and the trade-off was that I couldn't save or use sound... =/
EDIT: Managed to get most all my apps working. However, when it comes to emulators, I can't figure out where to put the rom files? I'm using SMS Plus 60 and PicoDrive, when I click "load rom" it gives a list of the N-Gage's dictionaries and I can't find the roms... =/
It's kind of annoying how you seem to have to pay for 90% of emulators and other apps... that's a lot more than I first thought. =/
