So, what is your opinion of the best hardware revision of all time?so i was talking with my brother last night and I was talking to him how i was possibly thinking of acquiring a 3DS but i've been reluctant because personally feel a revision is in the works.
and i told him that the GBA SP is regarded as the best hardware revision of all time. The weird thing is that i'm not too sure where i got this idea but i think it is the consensus or am i wrong to believe this.
The original GBA ate up batteries had no direct charging port, and a really bad screen which was difficult to view in most lighting conditions made worse because it didn't have a very necessary backlight. The SP was so mindfully created addressing nearly every issue with the original GBA and its form factor was very smart and inventive.
list of platforms with notable hardware revisions:
Gameboy -> Gameboy pocket
+improved battery life (4AA to 2AAA), larger screen size, much better sharper screen, smaller handheld size
GBA -> GBA SP -> GBA Micro (lol)
+ rechargeable battery with very good battery life, better form factor, clam shell design protected its screen, backlight
Nintendo DS -> Nintendo DS lite
+ better battery life, much better form factor and weight, better tactile button
PSP -> PSPGO
+improved battery life, form factor, internal memory
-discontinued, loss of disc drive, expensive.
PS2 -> PS2 Slim
+drastic reduction in size
-loss of expansion port
Xbox360 -> Xbox360 S
+improved reliably, from 3 to 5 usb ports, built in wifi N, quieter drive, more power efficient, touch buttons
-no face plates
PS3 -> PS3 Slim
+smaller size, more power efficient, improved reliability, price drop
-4,2 to 2 usb ports, no backwards compatibility, loss of touch buttons, loss of functionality from firmware

Just reading a topic from another game forum and thinking of posting it here as this might be an interesting topic to hear what you're favorite hardware revision.

The PS2 slim. It's so tiny!
Also I consider the DS Lite an infinite improvement over the original DS. There are a few things in which I prefer the originals though. Most notably the PlayStation 3 and Sega Genesis.

Xbox 360 hands down...
I don't know if this counts as a revision, but DSi to DSi XL was pretty neat too...

Hm.
Genesis+SegaCD to CDX probably stands out more as a "WOAH" moment. Now THAT was a revision. Much moreso than a shrink-down (which the GB and PS1 have done).
No.

Getting there.

YES
(Unless you count unoffcial works, like BenHeck's 360 laptop, the DreamTrooper, the NES-on-a-Chip in a NES cart... I'm too tired to look for the links, but Google it yourself and be impressed.)

DS Lite is my favorite hardware revision. Compared to the first release of the DS, it was better in every possible way.

Re: Best hardware revision of all time?
I'd say either the Sega CD Model 2 or the PS2 Slim, and I have relatively superficial reasons for that, which I admit. I HATE disk trays. They break. They're annoying. They're stupid. They're completely unneeded. I have seven disk based systems. Want to know how many of them have CD trays? None. Because they suck.

Re: Best hardware revision of all time?
I don't think that really counts as a hardware revision considering it's not put out by Sega and it's (I'm pretty sure) an emulation based system with no capability to play cartridges.xan_racketBOY_fan wrote:
