fighting games ps3 or 360 which version to choose

Post by mas »

Hi everyone,
I own a 360 and a ps3 and I want to fill up on my fighting genre. If I wanted to pick up a fighting game which version do I go for the ps3 or 360? I want to get tekken x street fighter, soul calibur 4 or 5, tekken 6, king of fighters 13, virtua fighter 5, ultimate marvel vs capcom 3, Blazeblue series and street fighter 4 arcade edition. Can anyone tell me if there is a differance in any of these games on different platforms? Everyone also tells me that the ps3 controller is better for fighting games. Is there any truth to that. Any help would be great thanks

Controller might be a matter of preference. In the larger sense, neither controller is particularly ideal, and most serious fighting game enthusiasts will invest in a stick, or at least more dedicated fightpads.

That being said, personally, I think the PS3 d-pad sucks less, so I tend to buy them for the PS3 for that reason alone. I have a PS3 stick as well, but if I'm playing fighters with friends we just tend to use the standard controllers. /shrug
If you -are- investing in additional controllers, far as I know USB based 360 controllers are far more reliable to get working on the PC as well, which can be a bonus. PS3 USB peripherals may work, but could just as well not, based on things like the USB controller they're plugged into.

A second consideration may be if you have friends or a community that you want to play with, which might influence whether you'd rather the online service be PSN or XBL. If you're interested in playing online, that is.

In terms of the ports, the only general disparity I'm aware of is that the Capcom 3D engines tend to favor the 360 - SFIV one (also Tekken X Street Fighter) has 2xAA on the 360, and texture smoothing that the PS3 lacks. The PS3 version of the SFIV titles also has some missing background details and blurry background textures compared to the 360.
MvC3 also looks slightly nicer on the 360, but apparently has some tearing issues during super moves on that system.

Usually though, the comparisons come in very close, with gameplay being identical.
