This is basically just a gush post. I was just discussing this game and how much I loved playing it when it came out. I was 14 and I don't know how I found out about it, but I'm glad I did. I wish it would be resurrected like Fallout was (it was made by much of the same team). I would also be happy with it getting an "enhanced edition" like Baldur's Gate is getting.
I always played a technophile with guns in the game. Never really went the magic route. How did you guys play? I think for all the time I spent in the game, I never actually beat it. I should pick it up on GOG and plow through it.

This game kicks ass. I played some of the GOG version but eventually stopped because my computer seemed to be having some issues with it. I was hoping it would get reissued on that D&D anthology, but it didn't happen. I would like to see some re-release someday.
And yeah, I was always a technophile too.

I loved that NPCs would call you out on your choice. If I went into a magic store, the shopkeeper would say "Get out, you reek of technology!". I thought that was pretty awesome that it seemed to matter.BoneSnapDeez wrote:And yeah, I was always a technophile too.

I played this game some, I didn't play enough for it to click with me, but I seem to remember liking the style. I think I just moved on though.

Only just saw this thread- I LOVE Arcanum! It's one of my favourite games of all time, for along time it actually WAS my favourite game.
It's kind of random how I got in to it, a crappy webcomic about gaming called PvP was talking about it. Basically, the tagline that convinced me to go buy it was "dwarves with guns".
Sufficed to say, my first character was a dwarf with a gun.
Arcanum has some of the best writing I've ever seen in a game, at least as good as Fallout, F2 and Planescape, in my opinion. It was plagued with countless bugs, many of which were game crashing, but at this point I've played it so much that I even know how to fix most bugs without any patches. But the game was so original- it predated the huge cultural obsession that nerds seem to have now with Steampunk- the dialogue trees are some of the best fleshed out I've ever seen... I pretty much can't say enough good about this game.
Troika were such a good company, and all three of their games were absolutely outstanding. Pity they weren't successful at all.
