I won't be joining you guys this month, already played THPS2 so much throughout the years, first on the PSX, then PC and finally Xbox, that I really don't feel like playing it again (even though I really love the freaking game).

Just dropped in to say that I can't recommend the Xbox version (THPS2x) enough. This version has got all the regular content, plus all the levels from THPS1, plus new levels and a whole bunch of other stuff. Not to mention the graphics are gorgeous, I don't know what special effect they applied to the grass, I've never seen anything like it, but whatever it is it just looks superb. Of course any "regular" version of the game (not counting handheld ports) is great by itself, but if you happen to own an Xbox, you owe it to yourself to try this version.

And regarding the evolution of the series, let me give my 2 cents. I first played THPS2 (I only tried the first game years later) and then moved on to 3, which at the time I really liked even though I have more fond memories of the second game. Of THPS4 I only played the demo, and then kind of lost touch with the series, but somewhere down the line I played, and eventually beat, Underground 1, which I actually liked a lot. Once again I skipped U2 and eventually played American Wasteland, which was sort of fun but passable. Then came Project 8, which at the time was supposed to be the next "big" Tony Hawk game, and for me it actually was. It's kinda hard to compare with the first games because it went in another direction, but it did that right, at least in my opinion. I haven't played any game after that, but I have really good memories of that game, so I recommend it for anyone who wants to try a more recent Tony Hawk.

first concert I went to, they were sold out and we snuck into the venue through the back of a pizza place that shared a communal dumpster area with the venue.

I loved that song, it played on Rodney Mullens (my all time favorite skater) skate video!

The intro song(Rage Against the Machine - Guerilla radio), Consumed - Heavy Metal Winner, Powerman 5000 - When Worlds Collide and Anthrax&Public enemy - Bring the noise were all great too but my favorite is Lagwagons May 16
I think that song played in a very old "The Dudesons"-episode (they were similiar to CKY, with out doing pranks to outsiders, so it was more innocent and fun), so I get a warm fuzzy feeling inside from that song

I love THPS 1-4. THUG was a letdown for me though. I did play one of the DS games (was it Downhill? Can't remember.) And it was good, as Flake mentioned. I really haven't checked out much of the post-Pro Skater stuff though. I feel like too much extra stuff was added to them that took away from just classic skating.

I personally quite like the games athmosphere, even though some of the driving quests were annoying. I also like Underground 2 but I can understand if some find it annoying as the game tries hard to have "Jackass"-vibe to it and Bam Margera plays a prominent role in the game. But to me it was a funny, over the top adventure, as I still liked Bam Margera back when the game came out. And I actually think that they toned down the ”GTA influences” in THUG2.

One great thing about the Tony Hawk games is the smoothness of level design. This quest in THUG 1 is a great example


From what I have heard, the new Tony Hawks games try to be like the SKATE games, which is a huge mistake in my opinnion. Its better to remain unique and do your own thing, and its better for the sake of diversity to have one arcadey skateboarding series and one more realistic.

The only one I can really stand is "Out with the Old" by Alley Life.

Never had a problem with the DC, PS1, or Xbox controllers, but playing on the N64 is just cumbersome. (Sorry, Harper)

Eh, whateva. I like playing it on the N64 using the d-pad, has much better control than the joystick, and I don't even want to think about playing it with a Dreamcast controller. I don't care if I'm the outcast for playing it on the N64. haha

I am playing it on THe N64 also so your not alone lol. cant believe how much i forgot about this game until i turned it on and started looking at all the levels. i spent so much time back when it came out trying to rack up ridiculous combo's. i think this was a great game for what it was an arcade style skateboarding game. "Skate" is a cool game if more of a sim is what you want. anyone remember the old thrasher skate and destroy game? i liked that game.

Yea Thrasher was very good back in the days,I think most gamers then probably couldnt get the hang of he controls.It required multiple buttons to even pull a Kick flip but thats what I loved about it and the song White Lines!

Thats on my list to get again.

Didn't have much time to play it today, but created a character and did a few of the goals in the Hangar stage. Having trouble getting the last E in SKATE and the 5th Pilot Wing which I assume is near that final letter.
