That said...I do enjoy Capcom Classics Collection Vol.1 and Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2. They are both pretty solid. I also enjoy the Taito Legends, Taito Legends 2, and the Midway Arcade Classics Vol. 2 compilations. I have also received some entertainment from the Mad Dog McCree Gunslinger's Pack for the Wii...although I would be hard pressed to call any of the games on that compilation "good".
MAT Volume 2 was pretty nice I suppose, but it's far too buggy and missing a lot of games that would've made sense to be included (NBA Jam T.E., Mortal Kombat 1, and UMK3 come to mind instantly). I can't really call it the 'best' anything because of this.
TL 1 & 2 come to mind for me right away. Great on the PC.

Have you considered MAT Deluxe for the PC? It contains MAT 2 & MAT 3 and it has MK1, 2, and 3. Only issue I have are the clunky menus and the stupid StarForce DRM.

You will never see any NBA titles or anything else that originally requires a license from another organization for that matter on those older compilations. That will strike down a lot of good games that could have been included.
Yeah I figured as much with NBA Jam.

I never put much consideration into MAT Deluxe. The way I see it, if I'm going to play arcade games on my PC, I might as well just use MAME.

With the exception of Taito Legends 1 & 2, I would have to agree. Even arcade compilations aren't immune to stupid PC DRM techniques.

Taito Legends 2, MAT Deluxe, and even the Namco 50th Anniversary use StarForce :(

Plus, the consoles always seem to have the most selection of collections.

Mega Man Anniversary Collection
Mega Man X Collection

I've spent more time playing the games in those than any other compilation. I think Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is on the overwhelming side of things, although it does deserve a mention.

Oh, the Ultima Collection for PCs years ago was awesome, although even when it came out it was tough to get all the games running.
