I never saw anything liek this before. It's nothing like the Sonic that was released for the Genesis.
What an interesting Sonic 1 proto.
Actually just realized, isn't Sally from the TV series which came after Sonic 1? This means this can't be a "Sonic 1" proto unless Sally was supposed to be in the orginal game but was later put into the TV series.
Either way doesn't look like sonic at all, perhaps a hack, but still a really cool game. Kinda looks like Metal Gear Sonic

For those that don't realize, this is the gameplay video for sonic xtreme. It was supposed to be released on saturn, but sega kept messing with production, making several changes, to the point that they ran out of funding or the project was cancelled. Don't bother finding sonic extreme dev roms, they don't exist, trust me. All of them were april fools jokes. There is just one (unconfirmed) demo of it. (at this stage it was full 3d, and was a very small map) It's a shame it was never finished, we were pawned on sonic 3d blast instead (which was just a port of the genisis slightly updated with 32 bit gfx instead of 16) Don't get me wrong, I love sonic 3d blast, even though many people don't.
People also seem not to like sonic R when it's my favorite sonic game, and sonic the fighters, which I can see why people might not like it, but I did to a degree (I'm not a huge fighter fan except virtua fighter on the saturn)

No, I'm quite sure this is not Sonic Xtreme. I'm pretty sure Xtreme started life as a 32x title. No wait, I AM SURE. I have seen the proposal video the dev team showed to the sega management to allow them to start work, and there was no way the Genesis could handle that game. The one you're looking at must have been another short-lived sonic spinoff for the TV series.

No that was the original idea behind Sonic Xtreme, before they switched over to the NiGHTs engine. It was meant originally for the Genesis I believe, switched to 32x very quickly, but then it was moved to Saturn which is when they shortly switched over to the real 3D engine instead of the semi 3D in the video. The video is just something someone made i think that was wrong. Because this is footage from Sonic Xtreme. They never really made anything for the Genesis because it got switched to the 32X SUPER fast. Here's a list of names the project under went as:
* Sonic 16 (Genesis)
* SonicMars (32X)
* Sonic32X (32X)
* Sonic Saturn (Saturn)
* Sonic Ringworlds (Saturn)
* SonicBOOM (Saturn / nVidia08)
* Sonic Xtreme (Saturn)
* SonicPC (PC)
* Sonic Bluestreak (briefly considered)
* SuperSonic (briefly considered)

Wait, no I was wrong. Or rather, the info I got was totally wrong. I hate youtube sometimes...
Yes, this was the original xtreme, on Genesis.
