"Retail demo, do not sell" questions (power stone,

Post by Zalphier »

Okay, first I want to say hello to you all again, it's been ages, for money problems I couldn't control (A good chunk of my collection is bye-bye -.-)

Anyway, I am currently working at play n trade, I dunno if you have them around where you live, (I'm working at the first store that was made) and after cleaning up the back room, I happened to find a couple of supposed "retail demos". Saying Retail demo, do not sell. (These are all ntsc u dreamcast)
Anyway, there are two that are definatly retail demos. Each saying Retail Demo, do not sell. No, not that do not re sale that we see often, they just forbid it apparently. I have found one power stone, and one get ready 2 rumble. Also, among these, was a "Special Edition, do not sell" sonic adventure. As well as I think it's called "toy commender" or something and one other that I can't remember, though they show no significance of being special in any way. I so wanted to just keep these for myself, but I'll be responsible and buy em out if they are even worth anything. Which brings me to my question. Has anyone knowledge of such these retail demos? They are the full games as I've seen. So tagging demo doesn't make sense. And on ebay, I haven't found a single one. retail demo, not even in completed listings. Any help is appreciated.

(I'm hoping these don't end up costing me an arm and a leg)

The Sonic Adventure one is kind of special. It has some effects at the start screen and some other things. It is sort of a rare item I believe in the Dreamcast community. I would keep it. I don't don't know about the other games, but they may be worth something. I have a play n trade near me. They are provably the best place for retro gamers. Unlike gamestop and game crazy, they sell everything from Atari 2600 to PlayStation 3. I really love my store. I bought my second Dreamcast there. They were so kind to me, they even gave me a second controller to me for free! If you ever see a play n trade, I would highly recommend you go inside and check it out.

that stuff is pretty special, not so much that it gets sold so often for high prices, but that they were non-circulating and weren't purchasable. They're not so rare, since these were the discs that went out to stores with kiosks (walmart, gamestop, etc...), but they're not common by any means.

From what I've seen through extensive internet google useage, SA:Limited edion or whatever has sold on ebay a few or so times disc only for 50 dollars. Like said before, they were put in kiosks, and weren't sold.
The Sonic Adventure LE seems to not be able to save, and there are apparently a few glitches that do not exist in the original. There seems to also be copies that have the original case, but even fewer as most of the time disc only was shipped, and the back inlay and manual have some slight differences. At which point the prices rises to a whopping 100+usd.

The copy in my store is disc only, but I'd be willing to take that. Seeing as it was shipped as such to many people. The disc itself is in perfect condition that I remember.

The discussion is still active though, as I'm hoping some people know of the retail demos, and their worth, origins, or whatever. I'm pretty sure that these things didn't all originate from play n trade, (especially due to findings that most disc only versions went to hollywood video for use in the dreamcast store kiosk.)
