Gamecube Most Collectable Past Gen System?

Post by scottykick »

I think between the 4 past gen systems (PS2,X-Box,DC & GC) The cube may become in the long run the most collectable or at least the one that has the gamesthat increase in value the most.

Besides the DC, it sold probably the least amount of consoles, the games are compatible with the red hot Wii, and it has a few gems that are vastly underlooked (Eternal Darkness) it is the sturiest hardware of the 3, and has a ton of francise level games.

It is second only to DC in cool niche titles, and ikind of like the disk fomat as it is unique. The system also has what I consider the best wireless controler ever..the almighty Wavebird.

What are your thoughts?

I would probably agree.
It's a Nintendo console, so that definitely helps.

Its weird that the cube is the cheapest when it comes to price for the hardware though. Maybe the backwards compatability of the wii has something to do with it. Of course so are the competitors so who knows

yeah but i've heard backwards compatibility on the 360 is a hassle, and i know 40gb playstation 3's arent backwards compatible at all. to my knowledge the wii is the only current gen that has it going 100% and flawless

correction, all ps3's are backwards compatable via PS1, while 60 and 80gb are backwards compatable for PS1 and 2

ahh, i didnt know that. thanks for the correction.

but back to the original subject.. i think i can kinda see the gamecube being a dreamcast-esque console. it's got a lot of really good and quirky titles for it. like the donkey konga games, donkey kong jungle beat, animal crossing, pikmin, chibi robo, paper mario, etc. and not to mention it was the original home to resident evil 4, which in my opnion is one of the greatest games ever made. and i think i can see eternal darkness going up in price, and i've already seen the twin snakes go up a lot. i'm so glad i snagged up both of them last summer for 8 bucks each.

I'm in the midst of collecting Gamecube games. I missed out on most of the last generation, and since I got the Wii I've been trying to catch up.

In the past few months, I've noticed a general increase in the prices of certain games - namely RPGs. Maybe it's the shortage of RPGs on the Cube - in addition to the fact that RPGs usually keep their value, of course. I bought Skies of Arcadia and within weeks the price of a used copy increased by about 10 bucks. Beyond Good and Evil is another one I found for about $10-12 (used) several months ago and now it's going for $25 or more.

And some games are already pricey even used - like Pikmin and MGS Twin Snakes as mentioned before.

Maybe you're right. At my local gamestop used cube titles are sold mostly between 24-30 Euros, which is kind of much compared to the PS2 games, which are 8-20 Euro.

My local gamestop quit supporting the cube entirely. The manager told me that it accounted for less than half a percent of business at that specific store, so the company said to send them back. All they have is wavebirds, since people like them for the wii's n64 games on the VC.
