I used potions often, including some health plus plus potions for the final boss battle.
Thinking about the linearity and the few Zelda games I've played enough to compare (Awakening, Minish, maybe Ocarina), I didn't find this one significantly more linear. Perhaps the lack of contiguous over world is what makes the game feel less exploratory than others. The flying mechanic, in conjunction with three distinct zones which essentially correlate to dungeons, did mean you were "cutting to the chase" to a degree not unlike Super Mario Galaxy 2 versus 1. But I wouldn't complain if they had built a couple tunnels, river ways, and maybe a cable tram between the zones that you could organically discover and use.
Skyward Sword, thoughts so far?
Re: Skyward Sword, thoughts so far?
Bump! Playing this now and I'm absolutely loving it, too good to be true. It's been so long since I've played Zelda.
So far I really love the visual style. It's funny how it's still totally OoT in terms of looks, animations, etc, but everything is even more colorful and lively now. I'm pretty excited to see how Zelda's role is in this one too. Just got the Goddess Sword so I guess it's just getting started now.
The music is insanely good.

Yeah I really enjoyed playing this, apart from a few tiny niggles that didnt detract from experience for me anyway.
The final boss fight was incredibly enjoyable!

I played it for about 4 hours and got to Skyview temple. I wandered around looking for kikiwi things, it was really boring. I was annoyed that it doesn't show the characters' name above their dialogue. In the beginning it kept telling me to go talk to so and so. I was like, how the hell do I know which one is so and so? And then I'd ignore it and talk to someone else and the story would just go on anyway. The combat is fun, hopefully I get to fight more than those ogers eventually. The fact that your shield breaks is stupid and makes fighting those bushes that shoot nuts a pain. Am I just supposed to stock up on shield healing stuff? And after your shield is officially broken you can't use it at all?
I don't know, I've never been into zelda but every few years I give one a chance and come away feeling pretty much the same. It always feels like there's a good game in between a lot of aimless wandering and hoping you're going the right way. Usually when I finally get somewhere or complete a goal I don't get a feeling of satisfaction like "oh, I figured it out!" more like "Ok, that's what I was supposed to be doing, thank god that part is over". . .

How is this not the final boss theme? lmao.
Man, I'm way past this dungeon at this point (just got the third flame), but this dungeon... THIS BOSS, was seriously the coolest Zelda boss in all of the 3D games so far to me. So damn epic and fun.
This game is amazing, I can't see OoT being topped. But it probably fits there right next to MM and TP for me (always been a bigger fan of TP than most I guess). TP's music was very lacking though, by far the biggest improvement over that one to me.
