Your worst gaming related stories.

Post by ksloth »

We all make bad decisions when it comes to life sometimes, and gaming is no different. I thought it might be fun to talk about some of these missteps of the gaming world.

I bought a Genesis Activator, and used it one time. Why I *ever* thought I would want to actually stand up and move while playing fighting games is beyond me.

I spent all of my rent money ($400.00) on a Sega Saturn the week it came out, without telling my live-in girlfriend.. and then had to return it a week later so that I wouldn't be evicted for not paying rent.

I walked into a Software Etc., slit open a PC Might and Magic 3 box, and shoved the 5 1/4" discs under my hat and walked out, risking being caught shoplifting, and then coming home to play it to find that it used a software manual keyword copy-protection scheme. :(

I decided to open up my Xbox360 Elite one night during some heavy drinking to "clean" it, and would up destroying it by clumsily dragging a screwdriver across the motherboard and scraping of lots of apparently very necessary circuity! :x

So many bad stories I could tell. What are yours?

You pretty much topped the cake.

I ollied on my Game Gear screen in retaliation to not feeling right abouts to how I got it.(A girl had a crush on me).

Me and a buddy frisbee tossed Suikoden II around to oblivion.

-i recycled all my minty boxes of N64 games (about 20 of them) not knowing the future value of it back in High School. Boxes includes: Ogre Battle 64, Resident Evil 2, Mega Man 64, Super Mario 64, both Zelda Games (LE), etc, etc.

-in my early teen years my older brother and i were playing Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition in an arcade place inside the mall. One girl came to me and told me her friend thinks i'm cute and wants my number. i completely ignore her and kept doing hadokens. i found out later how "very" cute the girl was.....

You guys's stories make my tales of throwing away PC game boxes in favor of keeping the discs in a CD book seem lame by comparison. Or the time I threw away a broken copy of MOH Underground that could have been resurfaced.

I'm actually reminded of these stupid mistakes I've made quite often:

1. A couple of Christmases(?) ago, long story short, I went to my local game store to get an N64, it was for my girlfriend and she wanted an expansion pak in it, and made it sound like if it didn't have an expansion pak I would die. So anyway, I had two choices, it was either pay $40 for an N64 with an expansion pak, or pay $35 for one IN THE BOX with just a jumper pak. My dumbass retarded self got the one with the expansion pak because I thought my life was on the line and I fucking regret it to this day.

2. That same local game store had Majora's Mask COMPLETE IN BOX for $30 and guess what, I just let the opportunity to buy it pass me by because I'm dumb as hell.

3. A whiiiile back my local Goodwill had some cib Sega CD games (before I knew what the hell a Sega CD was) for $5 each and I totally should have grabbed them. I don't remember what the games were now but I know one of them was Sonic something or another and there were at least 5 others. That was the first and only time I have ever seen Sega CD games in the wild, and it'll probably be the last.

I hate myself. :(

I kept 30+ Wii discs in one of those crappy CD holder things. Must I say more?

My mom wanted me to throw out some of those ugly PC boxes to save space. This was before I had even 20 games. She threw out all my Pokemon boxes and manuals from Pokemon Red to Ruby and three or four PC game boxes (fortunatedly no classic stuff).

This still haunts me to this day as I'm trying to find replacements.

I left my girlfriend at the time stuck at a house she was babysitting at. She tried to call me multiple times to pick her up when the parents got home but I didn't answer because I was having fun at a LAN party playing Rogue Spear. I knew she was calling, but I didn't want to leave.

I traded my Genesis/Sega CD collection (system and about 30 games) for an Atari Jaguar and 2 games when it first came out.

I traded a Neo Geo AES system, 2 controllers, and 2 games into a game store. I got enough credit to buy 4 new 3DO games :|
