Why I think 8th Gen Will Suck.

*Disclaimer: I will be buying a Wii U because I LOVE Nintendo. Also, just to make myself clear, I do not think the games will suck 8th gen, and I'll probably like 8th gen as a whole, but I do think the consoles seem pretty bad from the information we have right now.*

Remember when the 7th generation consoles were coming out? It was AMAZING! Beautiful HD graphics, motion control, perfect online, huge HDDs, and so much more! Well, now 8th gen is coming, and I am in no way excited for it, no matter how hard I try, with the exception of finally being able to play Mario in HD. Nintendo's tablet controller is barely innovative, and nothing compared to motion controls. I mean really, we've all used and iPod or iPad at this point, so the Wii U won't be anything new except for the HD graphics. Then there is the new Xbox and Playstation. The 360 and PS3 already have really outstanding graphics, and some games honestly look pretty close to real life at this point. That pops the question, how much better can graphics actually get? There isn't much room for improvement in terms of polygons and colors. Sure, creative graphical styles are always popping up, but that's not enough to drive an entire new generation of consoles. Of course, the biggest thing about this new generation will be the software. More Mario, more Zelda, more Halo, more Assassin's Creed, more Batman, more everything. There have definitely been a lot of great new series introduced this generation, but aside from that, at least for me, I looking forward to almost nothing 8th generation. Also, rumors are that Microsoft and Sony are doing everything they can to stop used game sales, and push online distribution, which will totally ruin the industry if this is true. So what do you guys and girls think of 8th generation? Are you excited, or will it be a disaster?

This has been a great gen for me. If 8th gen is more of the same the way you think it will be, I eagerly await what is to come.

I don't know enough to really make an opinion. Whatever they have cooking probably won't be enough to stop me from buying the new hardware. I'll probably be there at the launch of PS4, XBOX "720", and Wii-U.

Unfortunely im not looking forward to the next gen. i think we are about to have another video game crash.

Not looking forward to this "no used games" thing, because it means my backlog will be even bigger and i will have to spend even more on games i want, because they will eventually not be printed anymore and you wont beable to buy used versions, unless you get a digital version, assuming every game ever released on the PS4/Xbox720 also has a digital version.

Looks like ill be strictly a PC gamer next gen.

It's completely illogical to judge any system (or an entire generation) until each system has been released and been out for a decent amount of time. Pre-release mudslinging reminds me of being a 13 year old on the GamePro forums.

Regardless, I typically wait to get in to current gen gaming until about a year or more in. This way I can see which console has issues, which company stepped up, acknowledged and fixed issues, and obviously what games have been released.

I basically wait to buy new consoles until old consoles stop getting EA NHL releases

I hope you're right. I think we need an industry crash. Everything in life has a cycle, and it seems the industry really is getting too "big and cluttered". I feel like everyone in the industry just needs to calm down, stop worrying SO much about money, and just get back to making good old video games. No DLC and subscriptions and all that nonsense. They already make billions of dollars, why do they need more?
