Don't get me wrong this thing is totally a toy. A really cool one though. For a person with several state of the art hardware and software synths I guess the perspective is different. For me this is something I could just jam with for hours as fun.
I see the DS-10 as a fun emulation of a really cool old school analog synth/drum machine. As complex and interesting as current electonic music equipment is simple can be good. The DS-10 isn't making any attempt to support midi or work with any other production gear. That really would be silly, no DS sequencer or virtual synth could ever be taken seriously as an external controller or sound generator. I have no intent to sample or use it for any kind of control.
This is from a guy who toured japan last summer playing live tekno using 2 Wii-motes. I love me some video game music fun and used correctly some video game hardware and controllers can be used for unique control. Now every douche bag in the world thinks hes amazing because he can adjust pitch (poorly) using the Wii=mote.

Yes, but can you buy a Kaoss pad for £99? Don't forget the DS has uber battery life, is ultra portable and wireless. You can't get those features for that price, plus you also get a great video games system to go along with it! It's a very interesting 'toy' for serious audio producers. When you get the DS interfacing with Max/MSP through midi the possibilities are endless. Hell there's even a monome clone for DS.
I wouldn't write the system off as a toy. The DS-10 looks to be about as much use as a chocolate fireguard though...

You don't need to have anything else, just an imagination! Also, MIDI input for the DS-10 is not available so don't worry about that.bluelazergun wrote:If I get the DS 10 will I need any computer software or other musical devices such as a MIDI? I don't have anything like that. I just wanna jam on the DS.
I might suggest a good pair of headphones!
