What was the last movie you've seen?

Not likely, considered one of the biggest movie flops ever.

Saw John Carter ... what the hell were people talking about, this was pretty good. You can argue similarities to other sci fi a bit, but the filmmakers made a serious effort to really distance the atmosphere from other movies and even the plot is quite shifted up. I don't think people saying it's too similar to Star Wars or Avatar actually saw it, or think that Star Wars and Avatar make up the entire of the science fiction genre. (therefore if anything is science fiction with ships and aliens, it's too much like Star Wars, for example).

I hope Disney gives a sequel a shot.
I haven't actually watched the movie. But I've noticed that some people on this thread are very critical of the movies they watch. For some it seems the movie has to be an absolute masterpiece for them to enjoy it.

Who does this? This is one of my favorite threads on the site because, by in large, people offer good explanations for why they like/don't like a film.

I'd add that it is possible to be critical of a film and still enjoy it, too.

Yeah also not sure if that is directed at my comment about it being a flop. That's just a fact and has nothing to do with me liking that movie. It's probably going to lose Disney around $200 mil.

No, it wasn't directed at any one person in particular. Just meant that there seems to be higher standards for movies in general on this thread.

Like I said, I haven't seen the movie so I can't claim if it was good or not. The previews look good, though.

This thread has morphed into a pretty excellent thread, due wholly in part to to the detailed and often "critical" reviews.

Michi, Luke, Dsh, and Noise all post outstanding reviews and it is about the best non-gaming thread we have, imo. I learn a ton of stuff and as I don't know a ton about current movies, I find this thread helpful and informative. Criticism is necessary for that? /mini-rant

Yeah, I know :\

I'm hoping it does better at home release. It really looks like most people just ignored it as "an Avatar and Star Wars rip off" and skipped it all together. Hopefully they'll give it a shot and we can see it again.

Though ... it's not as big of a flop as people argue ... the movie was $250 Mil. to make and has grossed $235 Mil. so far. So it's not like Pluto Nash or something. (Domestic earnings are where it's not doing well)

We'll see what it's at when it's theatrical run ends. I imagine it won't be much higher ... but it the home market makes it profitable, there's a chance. After all the biggest problem with the movie was the advertising. They relied WAAAY too much on people being familiar with the books.

Well, the news has already been broken about ANCHORMAN 2, but this clip is worth sharing.

It's sad that Brad Bird is such a hugely talented director, yet can't sell a single movie on his name. I think The Iron Giant was a much bigger flop than this movie, proportionally, but they weren't hinging as much money on it.
