I feel like video games are crowding out my other hobbies. Ever since I got into gaming a couple of years ago I've been neglecting other things I used to be really interested in. I've only purchased one music CD this year. One! And I barely seem to read anymore either. I need to find some balance or something.

I think you are right - you do need a balance.

Gaming has become my primary hobby - however, I enjoy the hobby in many ways. Primarily by incorporating my passion for woodworking: Building game storage, building arcade stick casings, etc.

Also, modding controllers etc, building on my interest in electronics, messing around w/roms and pcb's, etc.

Designing custom artwork, or at least coming up w/ideas and having others do the actual printing, etc.

So my gaming hobby is actually many hobbies:
Collecting
Playing
Designing
Woodworking
Electronics (soldering, modifying, etc)
Fabrication
Yard Sale-ing

I was just reading about that. I'll be really curious to see how the next Xbox and Playstation fare if the rumors are true and they somehow disable used games. If it's true, I won't be buying either system.

I just went to a local video rental store that had Nintendo 64 games for rent. Quite a few of them too.

I was just reading about that. I'll be really curious to see how the next Xbox and Playstation fare if the rumors are true and they somehow disable used games. If it's true, I won't be buying either system.

This move could destroy Gamestop. I could be wrong, but it looks like the execs at Microsoft and Sony want to follow (or emulate) the Steam model.

It's also hard for me to not assume that if this isn't a 4/1 joke, that both consoles will also have "elite" versions, which will be the console that kids really want but will be outrageous in price.
