Hey gang,
Is there a good comparison video for what DS games look like on 3DS vs what they look like on a regular DS? I tried to Google it but couldn't figure out how to word it correctly to find a good video. I am still looking at getting a 3DS (probably when they re-design it) and just want to see what regular DS games look like on it. I thought I heard they don't look as good on 3DS.
Thanks

Re: DS games on 3DS
I can tell you from experience that there is a difference in the way they look, but that it is not bad. Because of the higher screen resolution on the top screen, the games are upscaled in order to fit properly. As a result, the edges on the graphics, especially text, have a softer look to them. Some might say blurry, but it's really not bad.
If you choose to, you can hold Start when you load up a game, and it will shrink the game window to a pixel perfect ratio, which is sharp and crisp but small.
Some games seem to look better than others.. for instance I played Radiant Historia and I found no issue with the way the graphics looked. When I played 999 though, it looked a bit more blurry to me. In both cases though, it was fine and did not distract me from any enjoyment of the games.
I think the lower screen resolution is the same as the DS if i'm not mistaken, which would mean no difference there.
Hope this is somewhat helpful!

Re: DS games on 3DS
I have a 3ds and a DSiXl, I can take some pictures of them running the same game tonight if you would like. The only game I have two copies of is Advance Wars DS, is that acceptable?
Ive never had the problems that others seem have with it, but then again, I dont play that many DS games on the 3ds - Arkanoid DS and Club House Games mostly (the 3ds circle pad is vastly superior to the dpad for Arkanoid, but still falls short to the mighty spinner).

Thanks for the info guys. fastbilly1 you don't have to go to that trouble. I was just looking for real world opinions. I'd like to get that Aliens game for the DS and am just thinking about my future plans for updating to the 3DS. I wonder when we'll get the 3DS Pro with built in Frankenstick. I'll pick that up day 1 with Mario 3D Land, Resident Evil Revelations and Kid Icarus.

I never owned a DS but have played DS games on my 3DS. So from an unbiased position, I never noticed anything that really stuck out at me as making the game "ugly". It is obvious that the games are upscaled but it isn't bad like people say, I played through Phantom Hourglass just fine.

From what I heard on the internet I thought it was going to look like playing a Sega Saturn on a HDTV using RF or composite inputs.
But it's really not bad at all. And that's saying something because I am generally a bit of a quality whore. It won't be as sharp, but it is not bad at all!

Good to note. I am in the exact same boat (never had a DS).KDub wrote:I never owned a DS but have played DS games on my 3DS. If you have the option, play DS games on an actual DS system. They do look nicer.
If you don't have a DS or are a bit lazy then they play just fine on the 3DS. Images are a bit soft and there can be a bit of distortion... but it really isn't that bad.
My suggestion: If there are games that you want then don't be afraid to buy now. The system is ridiculously cheap (was $120 new in multiple Canadian stores last weekend, with a $20 mail-in rebate available on top of that pricing) and you can transfer everything to a new system with a few clicks if an updated version is released down the road. If there aren't any games you're dying to play it never hurts to wait... but I doubt things are going to get much better than a new system for essentially $100.

Have you seen the innards of a 3DS? A circle pad pro doesn't have much inside, but unless you plan on removing the battery or making the whole system bigger it still wouldn't fit inside the 3DS case. Definitely possible, but don't hold your breath for a new model to be announced.Jerkface Killah wrote:... I wonder when we'll get the 3DS Pro with built in Frankenstick. ...

Re: DS games on 3DS
I find that 3d games tend to look a little better on the 3ds thanks to the slight smoothing effect. Where 2d looks better on a DSi/lite.

3DS games look better on a 3DS compared to what?
